Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Culture Unit, and working closely with the Culture Unit as a team, the Consultant shall: 1. Support the day to day management of the Culture Unit Business including participating in internal meetings and ensuring the necessary tasks are delivered in a timely manner and to a high standard; 2. Assist in the planning, implementing and reporting of the projects implemented by UNESCO Culture Unit in the countries covered by UNESCO Office Jakarta, and contribute to their development, including UNESCO-Indonesian Funds in Trust (Kota Tua and Museums in Afghanistan and in Indonesia) and Malaysian Funds in Trust (Tourism); the projects related to the World Heritage sites of Borobudur and Prambanan and projects in Timor Leste; 3. Provide technical assistance in the field of World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism 4. Deliver two (2) interim reports for extra-budgetary projects funded by the UNESCO Indonesian Funds in Trust, Malaysian Funds in Trust and German Funds in Trust. Create analysis reports every two months on the work conducted by the hired designated experts and contracted institutions for the IFIT projects. 5. In close cooperation with the Head of the Culture Unit, develop at least 3 new proposals relating to the activities of the Culture Unit, including but not limited to the areas of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, cultural diversity, underwater cultural heritage, museums, community development, taking into account gender issue and youth. Identify appropriate funding sources, donors/partners and assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of Culture Unit’s activities in this field; 6. Prepare various culture related documents, such as concept notes, agendas, PowerPoint presentations, speeches, briefing notes, and inputs requested on various on-going culture programme/activities and provide accurate English language writing and editing; 7. As part of the Culture Unit’s projects and to promote UNESCO’s wider mandate in the area of Culture, establish a list of funding sources, possible donors/partners with contact data, within private sector, Government line agencies, I/NGOs, UN agencies

and relevant universities, institutions and individuals within the Jakarta Office’s

cluster countries;

8. Undertake necessary missions during the contract period as assigned by the

Programme Specialist or the Director of UNESCO Jakarta Office;

9. Perform other duties related to UNESCO Culture Programme activities as assigned by

the Programme Specialist or the Director of UNESCO Office, Jakarta.

The expected deliverables under this contract will be:

1. Monthly reports including the progress of planned activities and work plan. This will be

submitted to the Head of Culture Unit by the end of each month for contract payment

(including relevant analysis on the work conducted by the hired designated experts and

contracted institutions for the Funds-in-Trust projects);

2. Mission reports supported by air-ticket’s invoice and other travel supporting document as

per travel plan.

3. Final report at the end of the contract period summarizing activities completed during the

contract.

Working conditions and schedule are as follows:

1. Total contract period: 4 months

2. Working hours: 40 hours per week

3. Break-in Service will be accrued at 2.5 days per month

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Advanced university degree (equivalent to Masters) in field related to culture

preferably archaeology, ethnology, heritage management or museology.

WORK EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience with two (2) at an

international level. Previous experience at UNESCO and/or UN system would be an

asset

Knowledge of Southeast Asian context would be appreciated

SKILLS/COMPETENCES

Ability to work on operational projects, develop and maintain close cooperation and

relations with various stakeholders and partners

Strong analytical and drafting skills

Experience in fund-raising and contacts with donors

Ability to work as a team member as well as work independently with minimum

supervision, with efficiency, competence, integrity and in harmony with people of

different national backgrounds;

Ability to identify prioritized activities and assignments as well as manage time to

ensure work is completed to deadlines and targets;

Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and paying attention to

details.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

LANGUAGES

Excellent knowledge of English
