2. Technology Integration Rationale: Natural disasters like tornadoes happen everyday around the world and are important to understand and keep an eye on. Technology is not only important for tracking and determining when the storm will land it also plays a big role in notifying and helping people to get out of harms way in time. This presentation will provide multiple resources pertaining to tornadoes that will assist teachers in integrating technology into their lessons! 3. Technology Integration 4. Internet Content The internet is full of resources that will allow students to explore and learn about tornadoes, these resources include videos, blogs, pictures and others. Viewing videos and pictures of tornadoes will help students to understand them and this information can be clarified by experts. 5. YouTube ContentThis video shows all different types of tornadoes and the disasters that can occur because of them. 6. It offers a number of different links to websites that can help students to learn about how tornadoes work, some of the world deadliest tornadoes, how to prepare for a tornado and other links. 7. PodcastThis podcast explains a dangerous situation that happened the Midwest, United States. It gives first hand accounts of what happened before, after and during the tornado. Students get to hear these first hand accounts and understand just how dangerous a tornado really is. 8. Internet Resource Ready. Gov Government website that is devoted to providing necessary information about natural disasters. Has a lot of necessary information about tornadoes and what to do and how to do it. Ready Kids! A good interactive website for kids to learn about a number of different natural disasters and to explore. Educational and interactive website that allows kids to both learn and play. National Severe Storms Laboratory National severe storms laboratory, website contains a lot of information about tornadoes. 9. Kidspiration 10. Teaching Materials Fill in the Missing Letter Worksheet Students will fill in the missing words related to tornadoes with the necessary letters. 11. Teaching Materials Acrostic Tornado Poem Students write acrostic poems using the supplied tornado worksheet. 12. Teaching Materials Continued Tornado Alley Words Search Students get to perform a word search using words that relate to tornadoes. Students get to become comfortable with these words and understand what they mean through numerous lessons. 13. Teaching Materials Continued Tornado in a Bottle Activity Students will get the opportunity to create their own tornadoes with assistance from adults. They will create tornadoes from two 2 liter bottles. 14. Subject-specific Internet-based Resources Weather Watch Tornadoes This website is full of information about tornadoes including what they are and witness accounts of the storms. There are games and interactive materials on the website to educate the students about different weather systems. 15. Uses of the internet The Online Tornado FAQ This is a government website that covers everything a person needs to know about Tornadoes. Its has virtually all information about tornadoes that the United States has to offer and is an excellent resource for anyone interested in tornadoes. 16. Uses of the Internet Tornado Alley Live This website offers live weather and video view from storm chasers. These webcams are awesome to watch and the website has information about tornadoes and its interactive weather. The storm chaser map makes it easy to see the situations going on anywhere in the country. 17. Web 2.0 Teachers and students can use this resource to communicate inside and outside of the classroom. It is educational social networking, more specifically is its the educational twitter. My students can tweet about Tornadoes and learn more about them through others. 18. Web 2.0 Edmodo Edmodo can be used to communicate and collaborate on ideas and assignments.
