featuring NVMe based SSDs for the most

demanding I/O intensive relational, NoSQL,

transactional, and analytics workloads

R4: Amazon EC2 R4 instances are the latest

generation of Memory Optimized instances

which are 20% more price performant than

R3 instances

T2: t2.xlarge and t2.2xlarge are the newest

Amazon EC2 burstable-performance

instances, well-suited for workloads that

require a consistent baseline performance

with the ability to burst

Page 28: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

Amazon LightsailAmazon Lightsail is the easiest way to launch and manage a virtual private server with AWS

With a couple of clicks you can choose a configuration from a menu and launch a virtual machine pre-configured with SSD-based storage, DNS management, and a static IP address

Launch your favorite operating system (Amazon Linux AMI or Ubuntu), developer stack (LAMP, LEMP, MEAN, or Node.js), or application (Drupal, Joomla, Redmine, GitLab, and many others), with flat-rate pricing plans that start at $5 per month including a generous allowance for data transfer

Page 29: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

AWS Batch (In Preview)AWS Batch enables developers, scientists, and engineers to easily and efficiently

run hundreds of thousands of batch computing jobs on AWS

AWS Batch dynamically provisions the optimal quantity and type of compute

resources (e.g., CPU or memory optimized instances) based on the volume and

specific resource requirements of the batch jobs submitted

With AWS Batch, there is no need to install and manage batch computing software

or server clusters that you use to run your jobs, allowing you to focus on

analyzing results and solving problems

Page 30: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

Amazon EC2 Systems ManagerAmazon EC2 Systems Manager is a management service that helps you

automatically collect software inventory, apply OS patches, create system images, and configure Windows and Linux operating systems

EC2 Systems Manager makes it easier for you to seamlessly bridge your existing infrastructure with AWS

EC2 Systems Manager is available now at no cost to manage both your EC2 and on-premises resources

Page 31: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

C# Support on LambdaDevelop your AWS Lambda functions in C# using the .NET Core 1.0 runtime

To manually create a C# Lambda function, you simply specify the Lambda runtime parameter as “netcore1.0” and upload the ZIP of all NuGet dependencies as well as your own published DLL assemblies through the AWS CLI or AWS Lambda console

Alternatively, you can use AWS CloudFormation through the AWS Serverless Application Specification for deploying your C# Lambda function

Page 32: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

Lambda@EdgeLambda@Edge, now in Preview, allows you to write functions deployed to the

AWS network of Edge locations in response to CloudFront. This new feature allows you to customize or personalize content for your end users close to where they’re located, minimizing network latency

Lambda@Edge is integrated with Amazon CloudFront and uses CloudFront events as triggers to execute functions automatically at AWS’s edge locations, without the need for you to run or manage servers

Page 33: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

BloxBlox is a collection of open source software that enables customers to build

custom schedulers and integrate third-party schedulers on top of ECS

Blox gives you more control over how your containerized applications run on Amazon ECS

It enables you to build schedulers and integrate third-party schedulers on top of ECS, while leveraging Amazon ECS to fully manage and scale your clusters

Page 34: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

Page 35: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

AWS CodeBuildAWS CodeBuild is a fully managed build service that compiles source code, runs

tests, and produces software packages that are ready to deploy

With CodeBuild, you don’t need to provision, manage, and scale your own build servers

CodeBuild scales continuously and processes multiple builds concurrently, so your builds are not left waiting in a queue

Page 36: Toronto Meetups re-Invent Deck

AWS ShieldAWS Shield is a managed Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection service

that safeguards web applications running on AWS
