A protocol that enables fast downloading of large files using minimum Internet bandwidth. A practice of Peer-to-Peer(P2P) file sharing. Designed by Bram Cohen in 2001.

Extremely popular for downloads on the web. Revolutionized the way of ‘file transfer’ on

internet. In 2004, BitTorrent accounted for 35% of all

internet traffic. As of 2012, BitTorrent is utilized by 150 million

active users (according to BitTorrent,Inc). Very simple yet powerful.

desired file.(Ex : any server)Swarm : A group of computers simultaneously

New nodes cannot enter swarm if tracker goes down. Torrent Poisoning (intentionally sharing corrupt

data). No torrents for rare contents and no peers for

unpopular torrents. Copyright issues. Some torrents spread virus.
