Torriano Tiny Issue 20 Spring 2020 13.03.20 Congratulaons to the Torriano Choirs, alongside all Camden schools, who brought joy to all at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday. It really was an exceponal event with some of our children also playing the violin as part of an original piece This Bus is on Diversion’, composed by Camden children. The finale of It Must be Lovewas fing in the company of local Camden musi- cian, Suggs from Madness. The children sang and played beaufully and with great confidence, supported by many proud parents. I would like to thank Mr Cambata, Trish, the staff who supported the event and Camden Music Service for their passion and dedicaon. We celebrated Internaonal Womens Day on Monday with an assembly in KS1 and KS2 in which we explored the theme #EachforEqual. Children took part in gender equality lessons across the week, learning about great female and male sciensts in honour of Brish Science Week 2020. As part of their STEAM project, Nursery and Recepon worked with engineers to imagine a greener Torriano Avenue and learnt that both men and women can work in this role. Next Monday we celebrate World Speech Day and we are confident that gender equality will be a key theme in many of our young oratorspresentaons! We are very excited to have appointed our new PE Ambassadors! They have the very important job of consulng with their classes on Physical Educaon and healthy living across the school. They applied for the role and were selected for their enthusiasm for PE and com- mitment to ensuring all children enjoy sport and healthy living in school. You will be hearing from them soon! Torriano Tiny Issue 20 Spring 2020 13.03.20

Congratulations to the Torriano Choirs, alongside all Camden schools, who brought joy to all at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday. It really was an exceptional event with some of our children also playing the violin as part of an original piece ‘This Bus is on Diversion’, composed by Camden children. The finale of ‘It Must be Love’ was fitting in the company of local Camden musi-cian, Suggs from Madness. The children sang and played beautifully and with great confidence, supported by

many proud parents. I would like to thank Mr Cambata, Trish, the staff who supported the event and Camden Music Service for their passion and dedication.

We celebrated International Women’s Day on Monday with an assembly in KS1 and KS2 in which we explored the theme #EachforEqual. Children took part in gender equality lessons across the week, learning about great female and male scientists in honour of British Science Week 2020. As part of their STEAM project, Nursery and Reception worked with engineers to imagine a greener Torriano Avenue and learnt that both men and women can work in this role. Next Monday we celebrate World Speech Day and we are confident that gender equality will be a key theme in many of our young orators’ presentations!

We are very excited to have appointed our new PE Ambassadors! They have the very important job of consulting with their classes on Physical Education and healthy living across the school. They applied for the role and were selected for their enthusiasm for PE and com-mitment to ensuring all children enjoy sport and healthy living in school. You will be hearing from them soon! Also well done to Sidney (y4) who was not present for the photo.

Hi everyone,

We are all looking forward to upcoming PTA events- there is a lot in the diary!

We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can have the Spring Fair on

March 27th, after school, outside in the playground. There will be the usual Spring themed cake stall and bonnet parade (do start thinking about your Easter bonnet design) as well as pizza making workshops and a dedicated stall to raise awareness of Autism Awareness Week. Money raised will go towards buying sensory toys and creating a sensory play area for SEN children at Torriano, so do come along and support us in that.

Other confirmed dates are:

French themed bake sale to raise money for the Year 6 Paris trip– 22nd May

Eid Celebration- 4th June

Torriano Football Event- 19th June

Ocean Themed Summer Fair- 4th July

Do please put those dates in your dairy and let us know by emailing [email protected] if you have any ideas for stalls at any of those events.

Happy weekend x

Torriano PTA

Marathon kids

The whole school is joining the Marathon Kids movement with the goal to run/walk regularly and achieve up to four marathons over an academic year.

We want children to run at least a marathon from now until the summer holidays. They will be encouraged to run a mile a day with their class teacher in a given time during the day. All miles will be added up and hopefully all our children will walk/run the distance of a marathon.

Active children are happier and healthier children!

Torriano Sports Events News + Dates

Y3-Y4 Football at the Arsenal

Hub

A group of Torriano children have been playing in football

matches every Wednesday at the Arsenal Hub.

They are learning about teamwork, fair play, honesty and how to be a good loser and winner.

Y4-Y6 Gymnastics Team

Congratulations to our Torriano gymnasts. Our year 5 team came 3rd and our year 4 team came 5th. Special mention to Sam who came 1st in both of his routines and vaulting, Ava and Sumner-who came 2nd in vaulting. All of them worked really hard to learn

the routines and new skills.

Athletes of the week

We had three athletes of the week this week! Two were cho-

sen as an example of amazing fair play during football matches at

the Arsenal Hub.

The third athlete has been cho-sen because of her resilience

when practicing for the gymnas-tics competition. Photo to follow

in next week’s newsletter!
