You will need a craft knife or other sharp knife, a pair of scissors, some glue and a glue spreader. The best type of glue to use is white school glue (PVA.) This model comes in two versions. Colour and Mono. Choose which you prefer; or make both! Print out the parts sheets onto thin cardboard. Photocopier card is ideal. Notice that the parts pages are marked front and back. Print out a front page, flip it over, then print the back onto the same sheet. Leave the ink to dry completely before continuing. Before cutting anything out, score along all the dotted lines and cut out any holes with a craft knife. Both these jobs are easier to do on full sheets of card. Dashed lines are hill folds, dotted lines are valley folds. Cut along the solid lines. Grey areas show where to glue. Assemble the shell as shown above. (1)

Glue together the head. (2-3)

Glue the head to the neck (4)

Line up with the cornerGlue the neck inner into place inside the neck. Notice that it is slightly recessed. (5-6)

Fold round and glue the slider tube. (7)

Glue the slider tube into the shell. (8-9)

Slide the neck into the slider tube. Use the picture to make sure you have the head at the right end.

Glue together the four legs. (10)

Glue the front legs to the inside of the shell. Line up edge of the leg with the point marked in the picture.

Glue the rear legs into place (12)

Line up the centre of the legs with the joint on the shell as shown in the picture above.

Fold round and glue down the tabs on the box to make triangular sections as shown above. (13)

Glue the two ends of the box into place. (14-17)

Don’t glue down the large �ap yet!

Glue down the small �ap. (18)

Glue the front and rear �aps back to the inside of the box. (19)

Wrap a coin in the coin holder and glue it to the underside of the rocker. (20-21)

Glue the rocker hinge into place. (22) Use the grey line to help with alignment. The rocker hinge should �t snugly into place in the rocker.

Assemble the rocker upright as shown above. (23) Use the alignment marks on the bottom to help keep this part square.

Glue the rocker upright to the top of the rocker. (24)

Glue the tongue to the end of the rocker upright as shown in the picture above.

The base is now complete. Pressing the end of the rocker should move the rocker upright forward. When you let go it should return to position under the weight of the coin.

Apply glue to the four feet. Line the tortoise up so that the tongue �ts into the slot in the neck. Glue the feet to the box top. (28)

Once the glue is completely dry your tortoise is ready!

Press the rocker button on the front of the box and the tortoise will pop out of her shell to see what is going on.

Tongue

Turn the box over. From the underside, feed the rocker into place so the rocker upright protrudes through the hole in the top of the box. Make sure that the

long half of the rocker comes out through the front of the box.

Now you can fold down and glue the box base into position. (25)

Glue the tab on the rocker to the box base (26)
