As Indiana’s economy continued to strengthen in 2015, Hancock County shared in that growth and vitality in its business retention and economic development

efforts. Through the combined efforts of many determined local leaders working in concert with our Executive Director, Skip Kuker, this county now has numerous site development opportunities, including an impressive four State Certified Shovel Ready Sites, encompassing more than 625 acres.

In his fourth year as Executive Director, Skip continues to “build bridges” that brought HEDC kudos from site developers, company presidents and other economic development professionals. Through his efforts and the involvement of several business and community leaders, HEDC chalked up several notable achievements in 2015. These “wins” included:

• HEDC’s newly created website hancockedc.com (paid for by a generous grant from Duke Energy Foundation) tells the story of Hancock County as the place with big-city excitement with small-town advantages.

• An extraordinary 30th Anniversary Celebration at Indianapolis Regional Airport that highlighted how far we have come since the early days of HEDC. We also celebrated our 30 years of serving Hancock County by saying “Thank You” to the communities that have supported the HEDC by planting landscape beds of perennials/or trees in these partner communities.

• The newly formed “HR Group” holds lunch meetings quarterly to share ideas and employment trends.

We are also proud to welcome over $158 million in new business investments in 2015, bringing in 775 new jobs to Hancock County. The Hancock Economic Development Council wants to extend our gratitude to these businesses for their new or expanded commitments to Hancock County:

To promote and coordinate economic development in Hancock County in order to enrich the quality of life of its inhabitants. Our focus is attracting new jobs, retaining existing jobs, assisting businesses and industry with expansion plans, and creating a healthy business climate in which both owners and employees can prosper.

MESSAGE FROM THE E.D.

Wow, another year has passed, 2015 is over and we take this time to look

back and review the events that shaped a pretty productive year for the Hancock Economic Development Council. A new web site was launched making it easier and faster for site selectors and companies to access data on our community.

The HEDC hosted a 30th year anniversary party which included an air show and celebrated our expansions and new companies at the same event, which was hosted by one of our newest employers Smithfield Foods.

The budget was maintained and we look at 2016 with our best financial situation and more commitments for public and private funding than we have ever had pledged.

We have worked with potential clients that looked at our community 3 years ago, proving that we never give up on a project.

It has been fun to work not only with new companies but our existing companies that have grown and continue to grow in our community. This is a fun and rewarding job, I get to watch as elected officials, private companies, public utilities and a myriad of others come together to ensure we have the best opportunity to land a new company and work with our existing employers.

We work on projects as diverse as road funding to employer hiring to “Shovel Ready” applications, along with the more public ground breakings. As I look forward into 2016 I am confident that the HEDC will be a part of good things in Hancock County.

“The Hancock Economic Development Council has been a valued partner for Keihin as we’ve grown over the last 25 years. HEDC has always been a great resource for us and for all of the businesses they serve. They assist with strategic and economic opportunities that help take us to the next level of our future.”
