INTRODUCTION Total Defence was introduced in 1984 and was adapted from Switzerland and Sweden.

Why did we adopt it ?

• Being young and small, we cannot afford to maintain a regular armed forces.•Wars are no longer limited to the battlefield.

Provides for the safety and basic needs of Singaporeans during emergencies and wartimes.

Role of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Take part in civil defence exercises. (Eg. Water/food rationing, public warning system, bomb shelter)
