Dear WID-TVC Members, I am honored and pleased to assume the duties of President of the Tennessee Valley Chapter for the term 2013 to 2015. I thank Past President Patty Popour for the hard work she has done over the past two years. I plan to make good use of the wisdom and experience she represents. She’s a hard act to follow! It's been a fantastic past two years for the Tennessee Valley Chapter and I am proud to now be President of such a great organization and look forward to the next many years. I sincerely thank you all for giving me this opportunity. Our Chapter growth has been achieved through the hard work and dedication of our previous Officers and Directors of the Board, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved. I look forward to working with our new board and committee members (shown on the next page) to further the great work done to make the Tennessee Valley Chapter a valuable resource for all our Members. Without the hard work and dedication of these individuals, our membership would not be able to enjoy and benefit from all the activities and resources our Chapter has to offer. I urge all Members to spread the word about the many benefits our Chapter offers and to get involved at any level - attending events, volunteering to help with specific activities or joining one of our many committees. Please send an email to the above Directors if you would like to get involved on their committee! The industry knowledge I have gained and the life-long friends I have met along the way have made WID membership a tremendous experience for me, both personally and professionally. So again, get involved and bring along anyone else you know, new to the industry or seasoned veteran, and see what the Tennessee Valley Chapter can do for you - you will be glad you did! Together we can continue to make the Tennessee Valley Chapter a great resource for all our Members. Again, I thank you for the opportunity to lead the way!

Redstone Rocket article (including picture above) at: http://www.theredstonerocket.com/military_scene/article_4e0fb844-67fe-11e3-889b-0019bb2963f4.html

The members and supporters of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of Women in Defense were honored to have LTG Patricia McQuistion, Deputy Commanding General of Army Materiel Command (AMC) as the guest speaker at a member breakfast held at the Huntsville Marriott on Thursday, 12 December 2013. LTG McQuistion was asked by the event coordinator, Patty Popour, Past President of WID-TVC, to share with the group her personal and professional story. LTG McQuistion rose to the occasion with wisdom and wit. She described the mentorship (and tormentor-ship) she had received from her husband, her Non-Commissioned Officers, the women who have opened doors before her, and from those she works for and with. She shared her leadership philosophy from a list that she carries with her and updates as she and circumstances dictate. While the General’s approach to life and leadership come from her experience, her education and study, her persistent questions which facilitate understanding, they also came from her golden retriever. These lessons which so resonated with the audience included: be loyal; when in your best interest practice obedience; let others know when they’ve become a threat by growling, but never biting; always run to greet loved ones; eat with enthusiasm; run, romp and play; take naps; when scolded, don’t buy into the guilt and pout; and if what you want in life lies buried then dig until you find it. An excellent summary of LTG McQuistion’s comments can be found in an article edited by Kari Hawkins for the Redstone Rocket (see link below). The WID-TVC made a gift to the Wounded Warrior Foundation as an thank-you for LTG McQuistion.
