TOTO LARAQUE
World Jazz Caribbean
BIOGRAPHY
Toto was born in Port-au-Prince on September 15, 1953. He began his
musical career at the age of 11 and this is explained because: for the
Laraque, good Jeremians, art has always been part of family life . In
1978, Toto, his brother Jean-Jean (drummer) and Réginald Policard,
founded the well-known orchestra: Caribbean Sextet.
Since then, Toto has devoted himself
entirely to the solo guitar. Toto has
composed a few Hits from the Caribbean,
such as: Cat fifi, Jolibois, Toto, cock gaguè,
madougou (Boulot and Toto), and staff:
Konkou Body Plastic.
Several records marked this period. TheCaribbean Sextet
Caribbean has made numerous performances in New York and Miami
where they have been a huge success. In 1996, they participated in the
jazz festival of New Orleans and this experience was very enriching and
allowed them to proudly represent their country Haiti. Toto has
contributed to the development of the discs: Hansy Dérose, Yole Dérose,
Lionel Benjamin and Webert Sicot to name but a few. In August 1998,
Toto and his friend Richard Widmaier came up with a fantastic idea
of what to do, Organize a first Magic Night of the Guitar, bringing
together fourteen guitarists. Since then, it has remained a tradition. In
June 2000, he was in Montreal and played in several clubs (Palmier,
Coconut Grill, Hôtel Ramada ... etc), dancing hundreds of people, and in
December 2000 he presented a show with the Eval Maniguat group with
Yannick Dutelly, of Harold Faustin. August
2001 Toto releases a new cd "Guitarement
Votre" with instrumental guitar music and
this cd is an international success. In
November 2001 he accompanied Lorraine
Klasseen every Saturday at Mango Bay and
was invited to participate in the Acapella
Night of Africa Night at the Manor and was
warmly applauded.
