Dear Friends of EuNC,As the year 2016 is coming to an end, we want to share some highlights of the recent months with you – about the annual Theology Conference at the Hungary Learning Centre, impor-tant meetings in Spain and the ordination of our registrar on the Portugal district.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 1:5

Farewell to John HainesIn the meetings of the Eurasia Education Council in Cyprus in November we bid farewell to Rev. John Haines. After serving for many years as Regional Education Coordinator, he has taken on a new ministry at the Global Ministry Cen-tre in Lenexa, USA. John has been instrumental in the de-velopments of all Nazarene educational institutions on our region – Eastern Mediterranean Nazarene Bible College, European Nazarene College, Nazarene Nurses Training Col-lege (India), South Asia Nazarene Bible College, and Naz-arene Theological College (Manchester, United Kingdom). We wish him all the best for his future!

At the same time we welcome Stéphane Tibi as the new Regional Education Coordinator. On 1 December 2016 he took over the responsibilities from John Haines. Stéphane and his wife Sandra have served on the Africa Region for the past ten years, in their latest role as Field Strategy Co-ordinator for the Africa Central Region. However, they originally come from Europe; Stéphane is from France and Sandra from Switzerland. We are looking forward to their ministry among us and pray for God’s guidance and bless-ings as they move back to Europe in the coming weeks and as they serve the Lord through education on our region.

Various leaders from different churches and educational providers met in Madrid to think, speak, and pray about a collaboration through the Spain Learning Centre.

From left to right: Rev. Stéphane Tibi (new Regional Education Coordinator), Dr. Deirdre Brower-Latz (Principal of Nazarene Theological College in Manchester), Rev. Haidar Malawi (Principal of Eastern Mediterranean Nazarene Bible College), Rev. John Haines, Dr. Klaus Arnold (Rector of European Nazarene College), Rev. Simon Jothi (Principal of South Asia Nazarene Bible College)

Throughout this year several meetings were held in Madrid, Spain, by different people representing organisations that are interested in a Wesleyan-Holiness approach to theological edu-cation. We discussed about the possibilities of collaborating in the preparation of ministers of the gospel. At the end of Novem-ber four organisations agreed to collaborate in the EuNC Spain Learning Centre: the Free Methodist Church, the Spain district of the Church of the Nazarene, the parachurch organisation One Mission Society, and European Nazarene College. We are finalis-ing a memorandum of understanding and plan to offer the pro-gramme together from the school year 2017–2018 onwards. We are happy that Fernando Almeida will be the LC coordina-tor and his wife Liliana the LC administrator to work togeth-er with the different groups and help fulfil the mission of the school in Spain. They will continue to serve in their other EuNC responsibilities (Fernando as Director of Curriculum Devel-opment and Quality Assurance, and Liliana as Coordinator for Student Development).

Theology Day in Hungary

Developments at the Spain Learning Centre

One of the highlights every year for the Hungary Learning Centre is the annual Theology Day, which is sponsored by the ten mem-ber organisations of the Wesleyan Alliance in Hungary (of which the Nazarene district is a member). Since 1998 it has served as a time of fellowship, networking, cultivating Wesleyan theology in our native language, a dialogue and as an education opportunity. The conference is a course that the students at our Learning Cen-tre take for credit, and is also part of the continuing education for the pastors. This year we also had participants from the Adventist brothers and the parachurch organisation “Jews for Jesus”.The theme of the Conference was “Shalom” that we have been given and entrusted with in Christ. The day started with won-derful brass band music of the Salvation Army; the devotion and Jewish worship was brought by our Jewish Christian friends.

During the conference we had a short historical commemoration of the building where we held the event which is 100 years old and served as a shelter for hiding Jews in the Second World War.The papers presented were from three different perspectives: the Biblical paper was presented by Dr. Németh Áron, Old Testament professor of the Debrecen Reformed Theological University, the sociological paper by Rev. Szuhánszky T. Gábor, Methodist the-ologian, sociologist and teacher of EuNC, and the missiological paper by Rev. Szeverényi János, missiologist of the Evangeli-cal-Lutheran Church. The day was led by the Methodist and Naz-arene superintendents Dr. Khaled László, Rev. Gusztin Imre and historian Dr. Lakatos Judit (all EuNC local faculty members); and of course, all the member organisations participated to a great extent to provide for 90–100 people who attended the event. At the end of the conference, the participants were able to be involved in two mission projects through prayer, giving and vis-iting. It is a new aspect to our Theology Days, but not a bad prac-tice at all. It might be the best educational design for both teach-ers and students. – Mária Gusztinné Tulipán

Please pray with us for God’s continued guidance and as other groups are thinking about joining us. It is wonderful to be work-ing together with others in the kingdom of God to fulfil the mis-sion of enabling Christlike disciples for ministry!

We rejoice with the Portugal district and Rev. Raquel Perei-ra, who was ordained as an elder at the Portugal district assembly in November. She is a graduate of EuNC as well as a teacher and the registrar of the school. May God continue to bless Raquel and make her a blessing to many!

A Word from the Rector

Ordination at the Portugal District Assembly

There are some good things happening at EuNC and its learning centres – and we thank God for it. Although this is great news, the best news, or rather The Good News, is that God has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to become one of us, so that we can be reconciled with God and transformed into what God wants us to be – Christlike disciples. That is why European Nazarene College exists – and that is what we want to continue to proclaim by preparing and enabling Christlike disciples for ministry. Thank you for all your sup-port in prayer and giving this last year. All students, facul-ty, staff and the administration of EuNC wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2017!
