Opportunities for Energy Savings: New Home Construction1. InsulationProperly installed and inspected insulation ensures even temperatures throughout the house, reduced energy use, and increased comfort. Our program has insulation requirements for floors, walls, ceilings, attics and circulating hot water pipes.

2. Windows and DoorsEnergy efficient windows and doors employ advanced technologies to help keep heat in during winter and outduringsummer.Anotherbenefitofenergyefficientwindows is that the protective coatings block damaging ultraviolet sunlight that can fade carpets and furnishings.

3. Efficient ProductsEnergy efficient appliances and lighting are highly recommended and water heaters must meet efficiency requirements.

4. Heating and CoolingIn addition to using less energy to operate, energy efficient heating and cooling systems can be quieter, reduce indoor humidity and improve the overall comfort of the home. When properly installed into a tightly sealed home, this equipment won’t have to work so hard to heat and cool the home. Heat pumps are highly recommended. Temperature controls must be installed, including a programmable thermostat where required.

5. Air Infiltration House wrap along with sealing holes and cracks in the home’s “envelope” and in duct systems, helps reduce drafts, moisture, dust, pollenandnoise.Atightlysealedhomeimprovescomfortand indoor air quality while reducing utility and maintenance. Our checklist requires visual inspection of areas where air infiltration is common.
