Each week we publish stories on computers and will collate our collection of stories at the end of the term. This term in Maths we have been honing our skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We are currently learning to carefully read worded problems and establish what the question is asking us to do. Then students are applying their previously learnt skills to solve the problem. Students are finding it challenging, but are realising how Maths can apply in the real world. In Science we are studying a unit called 'Life and Living Things'. We have completed lots of hands on activities including; growing grass head pets, collecting and sifting through leaf litter looking for and cataloguing living things, experimenting with types of foods that ants are attracted to, walking around the school completing a survey of the and different types of birds. Students are becoming adept at writing descriptions of various animals and have drawn some fantastic pictures to accompany their writing. What a productive and interesting semester. It has been a pleasure to teach the wonderful children in MC3 this year. We are all looking forward to end of year celebrations and activities followed by a relaxing summer holiday. ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS! DRESS UP DAY The PBL Committee are holding a fundraiser on Tuesday 4th December . The theme is “All I Want for Christmas”, with students being asked to come to school dressed as something they would like to receive for Christmas. All students should bring a gold coin donation on the day. There will be prizes for the best, most creative costumes so start thinking! NRL EXCURSION Last Friday 52 children from Grades 3, 4 and 5 travelled to Sydney to participate in a Literacy and leadership day at NRL headquarters in Paddington. The program was called “Dream, Believe, Achieve” and had a variety of Literacy activities focused on making good choices, setting goals, thinking big and believing in yourself. NRL players, past and present, spoke to the children about the value of hard work, commitment, leadership and success. Another excellent excursion for the children of our dynamic school! Alan Andoni

TERM 4 ENDS: Wednesday 19th December.

BUS PASSES 2013 Year 2 students progressing to Year 3 in 2013 are required to submit a new application for a free travel pass. Applications have been sent home to eligible families and these should be returned to the office as soon as possible. Families who live inside the 1.6km radius and are not eligible for subsided bus travel are able to apply directly to Transport for NSW stating their reasons. Students who are ineligible for subsidised bus travel can purchase a bus pass from the Busways depot at Charmhaven during the December/January holidays. PLAYGROUP Our Community Room comes alive with fun and laughter each Tuesday morning from 9am—11am. Our Community Engagement Officer Annette Starr conducts a play group where children from the entire Toukley community are welcome to come along with their parents/carers and enjoy 2 hours of play, fun, music and laughter. The children enjoy activities such as colouring in, playing with the vast array of toys and many interesting creations are made from playdough. During the morning our preschool teacher Mrs Sharon Buck engages the children in 15 minutes of educational musical activities. The increasing number of families attending enjoy this wonderful social interaction for 2 hours each Tuesday.
