ECONOMIC IMPACTS

POSITIVES Earns foreign currency. Provides many jobs in

hotels,transport,shops,and making aircraft good

The infrastucture (airports,roads,water and electricity supplies) improved for tourists can also benefit local people.

NEGATIVES Income varies as the number

of visitors goes up and down. Many jobs are

unskilled,poorly paid and available only in one season of the year.

Tourist developments replace farming and fishing,taking over their spaces,destroying livelihoods.

POSITIVES Greater awareness of

landscapes,habitats,and wildlie is created.

Enhance fees to parks and revenues from tourism can pay for management,conservation,and repairs.

NEGATIVES Destruction of

habitats to build the new infrastructure of hotels,airports,etc.

Pollution problems: litter,noise and untreated wastes going into the sea.

TYPES OF TOURISM Domestic tourism: involves residents

travelling only within their country. Inbound tourism: involves non-

residents travelling within a country. Outbound tourism: involves residents

travelling within another country.

TOURISM TODAY International tourism arrivals reached an

all time record of 763 million in 2004. Growth over 2003 corresponds to 11%. Worldwide earning on international

tourism reached in 2004 a new record value US$ 623 billion.

International arrivals are expected to reach over1.56 billion by the year 2020.

large numbers of people. It is also associated with coastal locations, where many environments are fragile and habitats vulnerable.
