GINGEE Fort also known as Chenji orJinji
It is the one of traditional port in tamilnadu
It lies in Villupuram District
,160 kilometresfrom the state capital, Chennai, and is close tothe Union Territory of Pondicherry

Originally the site of a small fort built by theChola dynasty in 9th century AD
It was later modified by Kurumbar whilefighting the Chola and again by the
Vijayanagar empire in the 13th century
The fort consists of three hills, connected bywalls enclosing an area of 7 square kilometres

It was built at a height of 800 feet (240 m), andprotected by a 80 feet (24 m) wide moat.
It had an eight-storeyed Kalyana Mahal(marriage hall), granaries, prison cells, a
military gymnasium and a temple dedicated toits presiding Hindu goddess calledChenjiamman
