Dear Parents/Guardians,
This year we are hosting fun summer recreation activities throughout Manitowaning.
You can find events at the museum, fairgrounds, beach, and library!
Our summer students, staff and volunteers will be carrying out exciting programs
throughout the summer for you and your child to participate in. Take a look through the
package and find some great experiences for you and your child to enjoy this summer in
Manitowaning.
Please note that we have some activities for families and adults to participate in as well.

Monday July 17th - 10-11:30 am at arena $25 (includes all class
supplies/canvas) Dragonflies/Believe
Orienteering for Youth and Adults at McLean’s Park
August 10 McLean’s Park (New England Road)
6:30 – 8 pm Cost $2 per person
Register at the township office and bring your child out to McLean’s Park to learn about how to
use compasses, and have fun orienteering with Nelson Wood. Bring a water bottle and if you
have a compass bring that too.
Youth T-Ball
Thursdays nights July 6, 13, 20, 27
T-Ball 6:30 - 7:30 pm ages 4+
Drop in - no charge, taking place at the Assiginack Fairgrounds Baseball Field. A waiver will be
required and can be filled out at municipal office or at the ballfield. Volunteers needed.
Cycling at McLean’s Park with Alex Anstice for Kids and Parents
August 14, 21, 28 10:30 – 12 pm Ages 9+ Cost: $2 per person
Please sign up by filling out a waiver at the municipal office. Meet at McLean’s Park on New
England Road. Kids will learn about their bike, how to cycle off-road and get great tips with
Alex Anstice. Adults are welcome to join their kids.
Movie Night July 1st 7:30 pm Everyone welcome
Join us July 1st for a movie night at the arena atrium. Then stay for the fireworks at dusk.
8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Movie starts at 7:30 pm. Featuring ‘Moana’.
Refreshments available to purchase from Manitowaning Brownies.
Nerf Tournament July 11, 18, 25
Tuesdays 7-8 pm Ages 4+ Cost: $1 per child
Bring your nerf guns (must not be modified) and safety glasses. We will have darts, feel free to
bring your own. Parents/guardians must sign a waiver.
Bring your nerf equipment and join other kids at the arena for a fun tournament! The ice pad
will be set up with hiding spots and shelters to play against other kids!
Dodge the Ball August 16, 23, 30
At arena 7-8 pm no cost ages 4+
Come out and play dodge the ball on the arena ice pad for some fun exercise and activity! No
cost, waiver must be signed prior.
Cooking with Cody August 15th 6:30 7:30 pm ages 4+
Join Cody Leeson, Noojmowin Teg Health Centre’s Child Nutrition Coordinator as kids can learn
some fun cooking techniques with vegetables. Parents welcome to stay. No cost
Stand Up Paddleboard Lessons 2-3 pm weekly Kids: ages 8 +
Thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Township is pleased to
provide stand up paddleboard lessons for kids and adults. To take place at the
waterfront/beach in Manitowaning at no cost. Please bring a PFD/lifejacket, we only have a
few.
Kids must be 8+ years of age. Lessons will run in one week segments for an hour each day from
2-3 pm for five days.

ADULT/SENIOR ACTIVITIES
Stand Up Paddle Board Lessons no cost MUST SIGN UP IN ADVANCE, LIMITED
SPACE.
Will be offered in one week sessions with two 90 minute classes Mon/Wed 7-8:30 pm down at
the waterfront/beach area in town. If you have your own PFD/lifejacket, please bring it.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
CANADA DAY – COME AND CELEBRATE CANADA’S 150 BIRTHDAY!
Saturday July 1st
9:30 Head to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Manitowaning for a short
service on the lawn, Peal the church bell 150 times, and enjoy a free
breakfast and take part in a scavenger hunt.
11 - 1:00 pm Fire Dept. will have a FREE BBQ for everyone
12-1:30 kids activities
1:30 pm Cardboard boat races with two $100 cash prizes!
7:30 pm Movie ‘Moana’ at arena atrium
dusk for FIREWORKS at arena fairgrounds
Join us at the Manitowaning beach for a barbecue, games and activities from 12-1:30 pm and
cardboard boat races starting at 1:30 pm. Be sure to build a cardboard boat with your child for
some fun entertainment as they race on the water, and to win cash prizes! (rules and poster at
end of package)
Movie at the arena atrium will play at 7:30 pm. No charge, kids 8 and under must have adult
accompaniment. Feature movie is ‘Moana’. Fireworks will start at dusk at the fairgrounds.

Kids Wilderness Challenge Bring the kids, 6+yrs of age! They try out their survival skills. $1,000
worth of prizes. $5 to enter, starts at 10 am.

crock pot, camo freezer, and meat saw!
Bring in your mount to try and qualify for our Manitoulin Hall of Fame and enter to win a
firearm.
Game Camera Photo Contest – bring in your best game camera picture and enter to win $100
in cash!

Historical Walking Tour August 31 7 pm St. Paul’s Anglican Church
Join David Smith as he takes you on a 45 minute tour of Manitowaning and shares the rich
history of this town with you. Guaranteed a few laughs and a few surprises!

Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons will be offered in three 2 week periods.

Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at the Municipal Office. Specific level times
are dependent on the registration numbers. Registration is a first come, first serve basis.
Therefore after registration, all swimmers will be contacted with the time of their lesson!
The cost for swimming lessons is levels 1 thru 5, $45.00, level 6 and up is $50.00.
Please make sure that you check the last level completed by your child, and put it on the
registration form. I will do my best to put them in the proper level where they will learn and
develop their skills the most.
Late registrations will be dependent on class size. In order to contact you with class times,
cancellations, please provide a phone number.

Construction Material & Rules
1. The ENTIRE boat must be built from cardboard & duct tape. Duct tape may be used to
reinforce seams.
2. You must provide your own paddle and only the paddle may be used to propel the boat.
Note: Only one paddle per rower is allowed per boat. The shaft of the paddle may be
made from a wooden dowel, but the blade part must be made out of cardboard.
3. Pre-treated cardboard such as waxed cardboard is allowed.
4. Fastening material is to be duct tape only. Decorations are allowed and encouraged
provided they are not used as structural or floatation elements. Crew costumes are
encouraged.
Design is left to builder(s). Let your imagination take over.
Participant Rules:
1. Every participant must wear a personal floatation device (PFD).
2. Boats must carry no more than 2 occupants.
3. The rowers in the boat must not be enclosed above the shoulders. The rowers must be
visible at all times while the boat is in the water. The rowers who start the race must
finish the race without leaving the interior of the boat.
4. During competition, the rowers must be IN the boat, not towing it, or holding it
between their legs, swimming or allowing the PFD to provide the floatation of the
vessel.
5. Throwing water on another boat is reason for disqualification.
6. Sunken or discarded boats must be disposed of in trash receptacles.
Kids Categories Age categories are subject to change depending on registration.
The Titanic Award – given to the team of the boat that sinks in the most spectacular fashion without any loss of life.
