Timeline

The project for the restoration of this feature was split into three phases: 1 the rocky cascade, 2 the Queen’s Hollow pond and 3 the stepped cascade. Helped by a grant from Natural England, works begun in January 13 for Phase 1, which was complete by July 13.

Protection & Legacy

Great care has to be taken when working in an English Heritage Grade 1 Listed Landscape, which is also designated a site of Ecological and Geological Interest by Leeds City Council. The walls of the parterre are an English Heritage Grade 1 Listed Building, too. Every measure is taken to preserve the rare calcareous grassland and the existing structure was dismantled under the watchful eye of an archaeologist, who discovered an earlier, more formal cascade inside it.

TPA’s heavy duty aluminium panels were installed for 7 months and once the project works were complete and TPA’s panels were recovered, all parties were astounded at the covered ground condition. in that it was barely noticeable that indeed the panels had been in place and that large volumes of workers, plant and machinery had accessed the delicate surrounding grounds.
