TPO 2015 – INDICATIVE SYLLABUS # Section Description / Syllabus 1 Subject knowledge Topics: o Typical topics of the chosen subject and grade levels (e.g. if you choose “Middle school maths”, typical topics covered in maths for standard VI-VIII will be included). o Independent of board; largely aligned with themes in the National Curricular Framework. Coverage: o Knowledge of common theories in the subject. o Conceptual understanding of the relevant topics. o Pedagogical content knowledge (i.e. how to teach the subject) covered to a smaller extent. 2 Logical ability and communication Patterns Analytical reasoning Syllogisms and Venn diagrams Common aspects of verbal and written communication (in TPO 2015, this is only in English language). 3 Classroom practices and professional competencies Topics: o Teaching-learning methods or pedagogy o Lesson planning and overall planning for instruction o Assessment o Classroom management o Understanding of child learning and development o Relevance of technology in education (basic level) o Collaboration and interpersonal relationships Coverage: o Knowledge of common aspects of practice. o Situational responses showing practical understanding of these aspects and ability to apply in the classroom.
