Furnish a TACO plate and frame heatexchanger to meet the operating condi-tions as indicated in the attached schedule.

The exchanger shall be designed, constructed and tested in accordance withSection VIII, Division I of the ASMEPressure Vessel Code, and shall be codestamped. Pressure vessels provided forinstallation in Canada shall be marked withthe appropriate CRN number.

Preference will be given to single passdesigns with all system connections to belocated on the face of the fixed cover plate.

The plate and frame heat exchanger’s fixedand movable covers shall be designed toprovide sufficient uniform thickness towithstand all loading. Stiffeners and welded reinforcements shall not be permitted. Any plate within the exchang-er’s plate pack shall be replaceable withoutthe need to remove other plates.

A roller bearing shall be provided on themovable cover for all units greater than 50inches in height. The frame assembly shall

be of bolted construction. Welding to thepressure retaining components is not permitted. The frame assembly design shallallow the addition of a minimum of 10 percent additional plates.

Each plate shall be pressed from ahomogenous metal sheet in one step. Allplates shall be marked to identify platematerial, heat number, thickness and rawplate supplier. Each plate channel shall bedesigned to allow full design pressure onone side with no pressure on the adjacentplate channel. Contact between adjacentplates is required to optimize structuralintegrity and elimination of vibration.

Gaskets shall be designed to indicateleakage across the sealing gaskets prior tothe intermixing of fluids.

The suspension and guidance method inthe design of the plates, frame, carrying andguide bars shall mechanically align theplates during tightening. Gasket surfacesshall be used for sealing not for platealignment.

The carrying and guide bar surfaces incontact with the plate pack shall be stain-less steel. All other carbon steel surfacesexcept the bolts shall be epoxy painted.

A stainless steel OSHA shroud shall be provided.

A comprehensive operations andmaintenance manual and ASME nameplateshall be attached on the face of the fixedcover.

Connections less than or equal to 2-inchshall be NPT type. Connections largerthan 2-inch shall be of studded port design. Each studded port shall be lined with afluid compatible material to preventprocess fluid from coming in contact withthe painted cover.

The exchanger shall be hydrostaticly testedin accordance with the requirements of theASME Code Section VIII Div 1, para. UG-99.

A computer generated submittal and specifica-tion sheet indicating the criteria used in eachunit’s selection shall be submitted for approval.

Applications Economizer free cooling; ground source heat pumps; ground water cooling; water source heat pump freeze protectionisolation; campus (district) heating and cooling; industrial processes; and pressure zone isolation.
