What is Track and field

• Sport that involves extreme athleticism • Can be played indoors or outdoors• Biglerville does track outdoors in Spring

season• Sprinting, jumping, and throwing is main

events• Distance running is also an event• Pole vaulting is also an event

Who does Track and field?

• Anybody can do this sport• Usually highly athletic people do it• People with good flexibility and joints• This sport is usually for younger people

Where is Track and field played?

• Sprinting, distance running– Played on the track

• Throwing, Jumping, Pole vault– Played on the field

• Can be played indoors or outdoors• Complexes are made for important track

meets

When is track and field played?

• Spring/summer season– Usually played outdoors– Can also be indoors– BHS plays in the spring season

• Fall/winter season– Played indoors always due to cold weather

Why is track and field played?

• To fulfill personal goals among athletes• Competition among schools/countries• To stay in shape• Enjoy the company of others• Builds relationships with others • It’s fun! (biased opinion)

What does it have to do with BHS?

• Track is a main spring sport here• Many kids like to participate in it• Great competition for surrounding schools• Helps students achieve personal goals• Helps kids stay in shape• Keeps kids entertained

Any equipment involved?

• Sprinting– “Spikes”, or running shoes with grips underneath– “Baton/stick”, used in relay events

• Distance– Running shoes

• Jumpers– Running shoes

• Throwers– “Javelin”, long stick with pointed end– “Discus”, flat, oval shaped disc– “Shot put”, small, heavy metal ball

• Pole vaulters – “Pole”, flexible, long pole
