Maximizing energy performance: our solutions seek to optimize the efficiency of thesystem by reducing consumption and by incorporating energy recovery systems.

Reliability and availability: our systems are known for maximizing the rates of reliabilityand availability of rolling stock, thanks to our analysis based on the AMFE model,advanced simulation tools and finally an exhaustive final testing process.

Low maintenance cost: in the design phase, we take into consideration maintenanceactivities, in such a way that our systems incorporate advanced diagnosis tools and ahigh degree of modularity and standardization so that these activities can be carried outat the lowest cost and the greatest efficiency possible.

Since it was founded in1972, our group has beenknown for the developmentand supply of innovativesolutions in the field ofelectrical engineering. Thetechnological effort of thedivisions, their knowledgeand experience are appliedto the development ofsolutions directed at energycontrol through theapplication of electricalpower systems and theautomation, control andsupervision of processes indifferent spheres of activity.

The tractionsystems developed byIngeteam Traction havebeen successfully appliedin the most demandingrailway environments, bothelectrical traction and diesel-electric, as well asconventional and high-speed rolling stock.

Our strategy is based oncontinued investment inresearch and developmentin the electro-technical field,focused on power andcontrol systems, as well asthe use of exclusivetechnologies and in theapplication of in-houseprocesses. To that end, wehave a qualified teamworking in modern labs andtesting facilities with the mostadvanced simulation toolsavailable on the market.

In the field of powerelectronics, systems havebeen developed thatincorporate the latesttechnology insemiconductors applied to awide range of voltages andpower levels, put to the testin the most demanding

environments within theenergy, iron and steel,marine and railway fields.In this context, we work inclose collaboration with thedesign teams of the mainmanufacturers of powersemiconductors,incorporating the latest state-of-the-art developments inIGBTs or more recently inIGCTs or IEGTs.

In the field of controlsystems, the R&D activityfound its first success withthe first automation unitsdeveloped in 1982.Expansion in R&D activitieshas led to the developmentof the current distributedsystems that have beenincorporated in some of themost advanced projects inthe railway market.

Ingeteam Traction's Offer

At Ingeteam Traction, we design and manufacture comprehensivetraction systems using in-house technology and know-how to offera very high energy performance, maximum reliability and reducedmaintenance costs, adapted to our clients' requirements and theirneeds to minimize the life cycle costs (LCC) of rolling stock.

Our traction systems, including traction converters,electrical machines and auxiliary elements, cover awhole range of catenary voltages (750 Vdc, 1,500Vdc, 3,000 Vdc, 15 kVac, 25 kVac) and power levels,for light tramcars, metros, EMUs, rail tractor units andhigh speed locomotives.

In the development and manufacture of our tractionconverters, we apply the latest advances in the fieldof power semiconductors, and we pay special attentionto modularity along with a high degree ofstandardization; these are the key aspects that allowus to offer high rates of reliability and reducedmaintenance costs.

In this field, we maintain a policy of close collaborationand preferential agreements with the main suppliersof power semiconductors and other criticalcomponents, for the purpose of incorporating state-of-the-art components into our products and ensuringthe supply chain of these products.

Ingeteam Traction's industrial activity also includesdesign and manufacture of electric generators fordiesel-electric solutions and traction motors adaptedto the individual requirements of each project. 200-class insulations are applied in all of these in orderto minimize weight and size in both open and closedsolutions, self-ventilated or forced cooling solutions.

Finally, in cooperation with our suppliers' designdepartments, we specify and integrate auxiliaryelements for the traction system like pantographs ortransformers.

IngeteamTraction designs and manufactures auxiliary power supplysystems for rolling stock that are light and compact for the entirerange of catenary voltages, with the possibility of being integratedinto the traction converter.

From the initial design phase of these systems, we takeinto account that it is fundamental to obtain the bestenergy performance, a modular construction andminimize life cycle costs.

Its main characteristics are:

• Solutions for all kind of catenary systems:continous voltage catenary of 750 Vdc, 1,500Vdc or 3,000 Vdc networks, as well as 1,000 Vacor 1,500 Vac 16 2/3 Hz or 2500Vac 50 Hz forAC catenary systems.

• Easy maintenance, thanks to modular design ofequipments and advanced systems.

• Equipment for different power ranges.

• Communication with control system via TCN,CAN, RS-485, and other communication buses.

• The power circuit switching devices are state-of-the-art IGBTs, specific for traction.

• The cooling of the auxiliary converter is carriedout by natural, forced-air ventilation or water,depending on the output power and the client'spreferences.

Our offer includes battery chargers based onresonant or high-frequency circuits to minimizethe space required and weight, and to be integratedwith the auxiliary converter itself.

Ingeteam Traction's Offer

Ingeteam Traction's experience in the development andmanufacture of control solutions, for application in different sectors,makes it a leader in the design and manufacture of vehicle controlsystems and human-machine interfaces. These are based on in-house control electronics platforms that allow for programming inopen languages in accordance with IEC Standard 1131-3.

Vehicle control

These systems are conceived for use in distributedconfigurations, minimizing the wiring, and may beconnected both by means of TCN protocol (MVBor WTB) in accordance with IEC 61.375-1 andother bus protocols.

The conception of the vehicle control electronics(VCU) is carried out fulfilling the requirementsdemanded by railway standards and covers allneeds for control, monitoring and communicationsof any kind of rolling stock, from LRVs, EMUs,conventional and high-speed locomotives.

Among said needs, the following stand out:

• Control of train propulsion and braking.

• Control of auxiliary converters and batterychargers.

• Monitoring and driver-assistance systems.

• Management of the trains’ on-board systems andtheir communication with a ground station.

• Maintenance diagnosis and assistance system.

Finally, we integrate the signalling systemsrequired for vehicle operation (ERTMS or others),as well as the communication elements (GSM-R or others) so as to provide a comprehensivecontrol system for the vehicle.

Our vocation is to work side by side with our clients throughoutthe various phases of the project. From the initial phase wecontribute with our experience in the analysis of a system'sperformance, and starting with the original system in the case ofrenovations, right up to the final phase, to offer optimal solutionsin terms of both performance and cost.

In this process, all the necessary simulations arecarried out to guarantee the proper powerspecification of the traction system in keeping withthe track profiles, the aerodynamics of the vehiclesand acceleration requirements.

Likewise, we execute the specifications for all theon-board electrical components, traction system,control, auxiliary power supply, communications,signalling, security and comfort, integrating saidsystems in the engineering of the train.

Our engineers then proceed to program the variouscontrol systems of the vehicle, its commissioningand subsequent approval, thus supplying a“turnkey” project.

We provide highly qualified and experienced teams and the necessary means for the maintenanceof the electrical systems installed aboard, to ensure that the specified ratios of reliability and availabilityare complied with.

Comprehensive solutionsfor new rolling stockWithin our collaboration with clients, both rolling stock manufacturersand operators, our capacities allow us to offer a comprehensivetraction and control system for new rolling stock. From specificationsand engineering, the integration of the different elements offeredby Ingeteam Traction and the remaining subsystems necessaryfor rolling stock operation, we work side by side with our clientsin obtaining the corresponding approval certificates and cooperatingin maintenance.

Design of the optimal configuration

Our engineers collaborate in the specification of equipment andsystems so they meet all the dynamic requirements of rolling stock.

Modernization of rollingstockIngeteam Traction offers operators the possibility of renovatingthe electrical traction and control system of the rolling stock,obtaining the advantages contributed by our modern tractionsystems, but with a lesser investment and a reduced projectexecution time.

The high costs of maintenance and operation ofa fleet of vehicles, as well as insufficient dynamicperformance, frequently oblige the operator tomake investment decisions on the modernizationof the equipment.

Our modernization proposals are especially suitablewhen the mechanical components of the fleet arein good condition and only require conditioningor cleanup, and however, direct current tractionsystems often show reliability problems whichconsiderably reduce the dynamical performance.

The advantages obtained in this type of projectare:

Greater availability

The new alternate-current traction systems offergreater reliability than the traditional direct-currentsystems. This, along with the lower number ofnecessary electromechanical elements, allows forgreater fleet availability, improving the returns onthe investment in rolling stock.

Lower maintenance costs

Alternate-current systems, especially asynchronousones, require less maintenance since they presentno problems with brushes, collectors, camshafts,contactors and electromechanical parts in general.This situation, along with a lower cost forreplacement parts for the alternate-currentsystems, allows the fleet maintenance costs to besignificantly reduced.

Lower energy consumption

The possibility of returning energy to thecatenary wire via regenerative electrical brakingmeans important savings in operational costs,taking into account the evolution of energycosts.

Greater comfort

The precision in traction control offered by thenew traction systems contribute to jerk control,leading to improved comfort for the passenger.This advantage therefore contributes to offera perception of improvement of the service onthe part of the user.

Improvement of dynamic performance.

The dynamic performance of rolling stockimproves thanks to the remodelling of thetraction system, facilitating the use of rollingstock on lines with greater demands or thereduction of operational times, given that thenew alternate-current systems allow for greaterperformance in the same space.

Extending the useful life of rolling stock.

With the renovation of the traction system theuseful life of the rolling stock is extended forthe purpose of optimizing the existing fleet.
