PURPOSE OF STUDY
PURPOSE OF STUDY 1. To create additional parking slots
within available space.
PURPOSE OF STUDY2. To enable free flow of traffic in the heart of the Mangalore City.
HOW THIS STUDY WILL HELP IN OTHER WAYS?
1.It will help to ease the task of Traffic Police Department by 30% during
peak hours & by 60% during non-peak hours.
2. It will enable comfortable and more safer commuting to pedestrians
3. It will enable hazel free driving for motorists.
4. It will help in making our road more safer to all road users in terms of :
4 (a). In terms of lower traffic accidents.
4 (b) In terms of reduced casualties.
BASED ON MY PROFESSIONAL EXPIRIENCE AS
• Motor Accident Insurance Surveyor and Loss Assessor since last 30 years.
• Having studied over 11,195 traffic accident cases since 1983 till date in detail.
• As a keen observer of every minor events that causes inconvenience in ones life.
• Application of rare ideas in all possible means and ways to find most appropriate solution for social causes.
KEEPING IN MIND
1. The existing motor able area available for implementation of suggestions offered.
2. Without causing any disturbance at the locality.
3. Without causing any inconvenience to general
public at large.
4. Without involving much expenses for modifications.
5. Without asking for additional construction or infrastructures.

subsequent to news regarding changes made in parking arrangements within Mangalore City that appeared in all leading news papers of 18/02/2010

……OUT OF 20 SUGGESTIONS GIVEN BY ME,
FEW ARE IMPLIMENTED BY THE TRAFFIC POLICE
DEPARTMENT GAVE DESIRED RESULTS……
(WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS IN DETAIL DURING THIS PRESENTATION )
SUGGESTION No: 1 To allow parking of vehicles from the LH
corner of Nalapad Residency till the RH corner of Maximus Commercial Complex on LHH Road, in a parallel manner at 20 Degrees
(as opposed to REGULAR PARKING AT 40 to 45 DEGRES for ease of INGRESS & AGRESS to parking lots without causing disturbance to up going vehicles)
No Parking is withdrawn immediately; but no initiative is taken to implement parallel parking slots at 20Degree. -please refer following photographs.

RH SIDE OF LHH ROAD IN FRONT OF KMC IS PRACTICALLY UNUSED BY MOTORISTS AND CAN BE CONVERTED INTO PARALLEL PARKING LOTS.
A parking area may be demarked on Egdha Maidan; as number of Ambassador Taxis running to BC Road is reduced to VERY FEW IN NUMBERS

Parking of 4 wheelers along side of Emjay’s Complex & parking of two wheelers in front of Hotel Vishwa Bhawan adds to traffic jams.
IMPLEMENTED - No parking in front of Hotel Vishwa Bhavan and Linier parking in front of Emjay’s Complex.
SUGGESTION No: 4
Right turn to Arya Samaj Road from Balmatta Circle in front of H.P. Petrol Pump adds to traffic jams on peak hours. Hence Right Turn on Balmatta Road to be prohibited during Peak-Hours.
This was implemented on top priority and gave an exceptional result; but barricades taken away for use at some security measure during some function are not brought back for the intended purpose till date.
SUGGESTION No: 5 …….Advanced thinking to Suggestion No.4.
Allowing Right Turn at this junction during Non-Peak hours will reduce congestion at Jyothi Circle.
This will decongest approach road on its right hand lane at Jyothi Circle and facilitate free flow of vehicles towards Bunts Hostel Circle.
SUGGESTION No: 6To allow parking of 4 & 2 wheelers from Right Hand Corner of Souza Complex till Don Bosco Cross Road, since there is plenty of way on RH side of the Balmatta Road. (No initiative is taken)

SUGGESTION No: 6 (cond/…)Because, the interlock paved part on RH side of the Balmatta Road from Jyothi Circle till Bharath Building is practically unused by the vehicles.

Parking of vehicles on RH side of Balmatta Road from Raj Towers till Mandovi Motors to be prohibited so as to give uninterrupted right of way to vehicles that normally use RH side of Balmatta Road when reach Mondovi Motors due to presence of Bus Shelter on LH side of the road.

Because, all city buses return to Hampankatta Junction via Rao & Rao Circle and Ex- Clock Tower
(IMPLIMENTED);
But Ex-Clock Tower needs re-orientation.
SUGGESTION No: 10Suggestion No.: 9 will create additional and safer space for more city bus stops from the LH corner of Forest Office Building till LH side gate of Regional Transport Office.
(IMPLIMENTED - Bus shelters that are under construction - NEEDS TO BE LOCATED LITTLE APART FROM EACH OTHER FOR EASE OF ENTRY & EXIT OF BUSES )

Newly built compound wall of St. Agnes Special School to taken little inside on its protruding corner near the bus shelter.

SUGGESTION No: 12Bus stop (presently without shelter) at Bunts hostel Circle on Kadri Road to be shifted towards United Toyota Motors for ease of traffic & to avoid congestion at bunts Hostel Circle.

Bus shelter at the junction of Kudmal Ranga Road & Horticulture Market Road & bus shelter in front of Amrithosava Building at Bunts Hostel Circle to be shifted away from each other. Preferably towards PVS junction side.

Bus shelter at PVS junction may be shifted from its existing place towards Bunts Hostel side.

Sr. No.: 13, 14 & 15 together will facilitate easy flow of traffic on three roads, namely Bunts Hostel Road, Kadri Road & Kudnmal Ranga Rao Road beyond any doubt.

Sr. No.: 16 will avert congestion on above roads & junctions during peak as well as non-peak hours.

Free left turn to be provided at PVS Building Junction for vehicles coming from Ram Bhavan Circle to enter M.G.Road (except during green signal for pedestrian crossing period).

Free left turn to be provided at PVS junction from M.G.Road to Kudmal Ranga Rao Road, (except during green signal for pedestrian crossing period).

SUGGESTION No: 20Obstruction at M.G.Road in front of Krishna Prasad Building (at the joining point of One Way Street from Jail Road to M.G.Road) to be cleared off.

WHERE ONE FAILED?
1. In understanding the difference between a Traffic Circle & a Traffic Island.
2. In finding out most suitable traffic management infra structure; that is; a Circle or an Island or combination of both; at junctions.
3. In plotting out the Centre of a Traffic Circle at junctions having more than two approach roads.

4. In plotting out the “Centre for a Circle” or “Location of Island” at (“Y” or “T”) Junctions having varied angle of approach at intersections.
5. In maintaining the width of approach roads when they reach Circles.
6. In determining appropriate diameter of the Traffic Circle with reference to number of approach roads and their width.

7. In providing Zebra Crossing for pedestrian cross at junctions.
8. In providing “Lane Marking” at Traffic Junctions from a distance of 100 Meters on all approach roads.
9. In providing “Stop Line” for vehicles at all Traffic Junctions.

10. In providing adequate width for entry of vehicles between recently provided “Traffic Cones”
11. In providing angle of entry in the form of a white guideline at the entry inline with “Traffic Cones” (10 & 11 resulted in damage to these traffic cones)
12.In providing parking slots for “Four Wheelers” very close to Traffic Signals & Junctions. (Jyothi Signal)

13. In constructing bus shelters very close to the traffic signals/islands.
14. In keeping bus shelters located on opposite sides of road very close or opposite to each other.
15.In studying average speed of travel at traffic junctions with reference to average speed on city roads.

16. By restricting a “RIGHT TURN” at Hampankatta junction from Balmatta Road to K.S.Rao Road.
17. By allowing “RIGHT TURN” to Railway Station at Hampankatta Signal on Falnir Road, for the vehicles approaching from all three roads.
18. By providing a Boarding point at Market Road Junction very close to Hampankatta signal.

19.RH side turn from Balmatta Road to proceed towards LHH Road needs rectification. This will reduce pressure on beginning point of LHH Road opposite Alukas as well as at Hampankatta Signal.
20.By constructing road humps/ rumbles/ road dividers in most unscientific ways.
