Conclusions
Railways in Europe need to take advantage of Information Technology to reach a higher level of competitiveness, safety and quality of service
The European Commission is giving precise guidelines, e. g. Directives for Interoperability
Standards are needed to support the Technical Specifications for Interoperability
Europe wide infrastructures need to be developed to support the new organisation of railway operators, as well as intermodality
Integration of existing and new technologies can enable new models for services (dynamic passenger information, maintenance) as part of a global fleet management system
