Lash lifting is essentially a new generation lash perm. People used to see lash perming as a dangerous procedure because it’s done using cotton rollers rods and series of liquids solutions to permanently curl and enhance natural lashes. Due to the liquids are not easily controlled, and solutions are dangerous to the eyes, lash perming is often considered unsafe. Lash lifting on the other hand uses specifically made silicone shields that re-create natural cur of our lashes by projecting the eye and with help of cream based solutions we are able to control the solutions and achieve fast results.  Lash Lifting works by softening and then re-strengthening your natural lash. Your eyelash is a tri-layered tube with a medulla, a cortex, and a cuticle made of proteins. The medulla contains the side bonds of the lash, which include salt, hydrogen and disulphide bonds.

The salt and hydrogen bonds, are the weakest and easily maneuvered bonds that are just easy to manipulate. The disulfide bonds (the strongest bonds) and are the most effected during a lash lift.  Your perming solution breaks down an softens the disulfide bonds, forcing the lash to surrender its natural shape and take on the shape of the shield you chose for your client. Your setting solution strengthens the bonds of the lash hair again, restoring the lashes rigidity. The final nourishing solution conditions and hydrates the hair for a silky finish.

HOW DOES LASH LIFTING WORKS?

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND SAFETY PROTOCOL

Should only be done on individuals with healthy natural lashes that are over 8mm long. Not only the result will be effective on longer lashes but also it would not break the thin lashes even more.

Do not perform lash lift on clients that have any eye infection, with lashes that are brittle and are shorter than 8mm, or on pregnant or nursing women.

Lash lift solutions should never touch skin. They designed for use on the hair only. If skin contact occurs, wipe away the lotion with cotton flock and water until no residue left on the skin.

If eye contact occurs, flush the eye with water for a minimum of 15 minutes making sure everything is washed and solutions left behind, and consult a physician.

CLEANSE AND PRIME NATURAL LASHES

APPLY GEL PADS

1

2

Cleanse the client’s eyelids and natural lashes with water and cleanse solution. Make sure all cleanser is rinsed away and pat dry.

Have your client look directly ahead. Line up the eye pad so all lower lashes are covered, and gently press onto client’s lower eye area—being careful not to touch the conjunctiva (waterline) of the client. Have your client close their eyes. Their upper lashes should lay comfortably and naturally over the pad.

CHOOSE SHIELD SIZE

FLEX SHIELD

3

4

Short lashes (9-10mm): Use a small shield for a tight lift or a medium shield for a natural curl.

Medium lashes (11-12mm): Use a small shield for a tight lift, a medium shield for a moderate lift, or large shield for a natural curl.

Long lashes (13-14mm): Use a medium shield for a tight lift, or a large shield for a natural curl.

A small shield is not recommended.

Flex the shield to loosen it up. This prevents the corners fromlifting, and makes for easier application.

APPLY ADHESIVE TO SHIELD

APPLY SHIELD

5

6

Cover the underside of the shield with lash adhesive, payingspecial attention to the corners for perfect hold.

Apply the shield to the client’s eyelid as close to the lash lineas possible without touching the natural lashes. Hold theshield in place until it adheres to the skin without lifting. (You may also ask your client to hold the shield in place while you attach the shield to the second eye).

APPLY ADHESIVE

BRUSH LASHES BACK SECTION BY SECTION

7

8

Working in sections, and beginning with the mid eye, paint thetop of the shield with lash adhesive so that once the lashes arecombed back, they are held in place at the middle and end ofthe lash but the base remains free.

Brush the natural lashes straight back onto the shield with a flocked applicator so they remain in place. You may use a flocked applicator to

apply additional adhesive directly on any lashessticking up off the shield, including lash tips and shorter lashes.

H D B E A U T Y A C A D E M Y - L A S H L I F T & T I N T T R A I N I N G

Once the additional adhesive has been applied, use a flocked applicator to ensure all lashes are lying straight.Note: Letting the adhesive “tack up” for 10-15 seconds before combing the lashes back makes this step easier by providing instant grab to lock the lashes in place.

SEPARATE TWISTED LASHES

REPEAT

Use a lash pick to separate any lashes that are stuck together, and to straighten crooked or crossed lashes. Lashes should lie straight from base to tips. Use a lash pick to separate any lashes that are stuck together, and to straighten crooked or crossed lashes. Lashes should lie straight from base to tips.

Repeat steps 7, 8 and 9 on the outer-eye lashes, followed by the inner- eye lashes, until all natural lashes are adhered to the shields on both eyes.

APPLY PERM LOTION

PROCESS LASHES

11

12

Apply Perm Lotion (pink #1) with a flocked applicator (or micro brush for more precision), covering all natural lashes from the very base to the middle of the lash. Apply quickly, and ensure the processing time is the same for both eyes.

Note: If you are worried about keeping processing times the same, you can apply the perm Lotion to each eye in sections, moving back and forth between eyes (ex. Apply perm lotion to right mid-eye, then left mid-eye; right outer-eye, then left outer-eye, etc.).

Fine lashes: 9 minutes Normal Lashes: 11-12 minutes Coarse Lashes: 13 minutesNote: For extra lift, brush the perm lotion up onto the tips of the natural lashes for the final two minutes of processing.

REMOVE PERM LOTION

APPLY SETTING LOTION

13

14

Remove the Perm Lotion with flocked applicators by brushing upwards, away from the eye.

Apply Setting Lotion (blue #2) with a flocked applicator (or microbrush for more precision), covering the same area you applied the Perm Lotion to. If you applied Perm Lotion to the tips of the lashes for the final two minutes of processing, ensure you

apply Setting Lotion to the tips as well (you may apply the Setting Lotion to the tips for two minutes OR the full processing time, as Setting Lotion simply neutralizes the lift). Apply quickly, and ensure the processing time is the same for both eyes.

16

Fine lashes: 7-9 minutes Normal Lashes: 9-10 minutes Coarse Lashes: 11 minutes

Mix tint according to brand instructions and apply to the lashes in a “dabbing” motion to ensure coverage of the entire lash from root to tips. Process tint according to instructions. Remove with flocked applicators by brushing upwards, away from the eye.

APPLY NOURISHING LOTION

REMOVE SHIELD

17

18

Apply Nourishing Lotion (yellow #3) to the lashes with a flocked applicator. In addition to strengthening and conditioning the lashes, the Nourishing Lotion breaks down the adhesive on the shield and lashes.

Run a flocked applicator soaked with Nourishing Lotion along the outer edges of the shield where it meets the skin. Begin to separate the shield from the eyelid. Continue to run the flocked applicator along the area where the skin and shield still meet, gently breaking down the adhesive and allowing the shield to release from the skin as you go.

AFTERCARE

H D B E A U T Y A C A D E M Y - L A S H L I F T & T I N T T R A I N I N G

After a Lash Lift, clients should refrain from getting their lashes wet for 24 hours (this includes heavy sweating and steam). Clients should also avoid rubbing their lashes into their pillow for the first night, as lashes are still vulnerable to movement.

Page 17: TRAINING BOOKLET LASH LIFT AND TINTING TRAINING · dangerous procedure because it’s done using cotton rollers rods and series of liquids solutions to permanently curl and enhance

TROUBLESHOOTING

H D B E A U T Y A C A D E M Y - L A S H L I F T & T I N T T R A I N I N G

One eye has a tighter curl than the otherThis happens when one eye processes longer than the other. To keep the severity of the curleven between eyes, ensure lotions are applied quickly and are removed in the same order theywere applied (if you started with the right eye, remove from the right eye first).

They didn’t lift

This can result either from under-processing or over-processing. If lashes are under- processed, they won’t achieve optimal lift, and if they are over-processed they will straighten completely.Lashes with poor results can be re-lifted any time after 24 hours.

The lashes are “curly and sizzly” looking

This may be one of three issues:1. The natural lashes were not pulled back straight enough, and Perm Lotion was brushed onto the tips of the lashes.

Always ensure natural lashes are brushed straight back onto the shield and adhered in place before applying Perm Lotion.

2. The tips of the natural lashes were over-processed. The tips of the lashes should never have Perm Lotion on them longer than two minutes, as thelash is thinner at the tip and much more vulnerable. To prevent over-processing the lash tips, either apply Perm Lotion from base to mid-lash only, or if you are brushing Perm Lotion up to the tips in the last two minutes (optional), ensure that the they do not process longer than two minutes.

3. The lashes need conditioning. The Nourishing Lotion conditions the lashes after processing, however, if the lashes are still dryafter a Lash Lift, your client can use a nourishing aftercare products.
