BASIS PROMPT Information What is BASIS PROMPT?
BASIS PROMPT is an independent industry/government recognised register of professional pest controllers who have achieved the required level of competence and have invested time in keeping their knowledge and skills up-to-date.
BASIS PROMPT registration certifies that you, as an individual, have received a high standard of training. This allows you to portray a truly professional image and a progressive approach to customers, colleagues and employers alike. The number of members is increasing rapidly as the scheme is now recognised industry wide.
REGISTERING EXCELLENCE IN PEST MANAGEMENT
0800 0851 451 9
How do you become BASIS PROMPT registered?n BASIS PROMPT is open to all qualified individuals who sell or provide
advice on public health pests or who provide a pest control service and are prepared to spend time keeping up-to-date through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
n Full Membership is open to all RSPH Level 2 qualified operators. Associate Membership is open to those operators working towards their level 2 qualification.
n Membership is confirmation that a pest controller has attained or is studying to achieve a recognised professional level of training and competence. This is important in two ways – firstly in promoting the business and winning new contracts and secondly on a personal level for career progression and development.
n Employees who have an industry registered qualification and regularly undertake CPD can be independently verified by a recognised organisation such as BASIS PROMPT.
n The success of the register is also helping to establish a better definition of a professional pest controller, which is much needed in the UK and may be required by future legislation.
Applicants who undertake training for the RSPH Level 2 in Pest Control examination will qualify automatically for entry onto the register free of charge in the year that they pass their examination and will not need to pay a membership fee for the rest of that year.
BPCA Registered Information
Introducing BPCA RegisteredBPCA Registered is the BPCA’s individual recognition scheme for skills, qualifications and CPD. The scheme recognises and records the qualifications and skills you earn throughout your career. Member employees on the scheme get an identification card that proves their commitment to CPD and records the qualifications they have.
Qualifications And BPCA RegisteredBPCA registration has three categories of membership. The category that you’re in will be based on your qualifications. More advanced qualifications can be added to the back of your BPCA Registered card at any time. So, if you’re a Certified Field Biologist or an Advanced Technician in Pest Management, now you’ll be able to prove it to your clients.
A BPCA Registered Technician is a technical member of staff who has passed their Level 2 Award in Pest Management (or equivalent, see website).
A BPCA Registered Trainee is a technical member of staff who hasn’t passed their Level 2 Award in Pest Management (or equivalent, seewebsite) but is working towards it. They can’t manage public health pests without supervision.
A BPCA Registered Affiliate is a member of staff associated with pest management but doesn’t manage public health peststhemselves. They don’t need to hold any formal qualifications.

CPD Should Be Real And Relevant To Your Role Your CPD isn’t limited to formal training and attending events or seminars. Much of a technician’s development comes from experience learned on the job. A formal staff meeting with technical content is ‘structured’ CPD. These points are added in the traditional way. If a colleague taught you something new while you were on a job, this would be an example of ‘unstructured’ CPD. You’ll be able to add these points yourself through your personal CPD account. Whether it’s structured or unstructured CPD, you’ll get points based on how you maintain and improve your knowledge and skills. Examples of acceptable CPD include:
Structured CPD - Accredited and non-accredited training - Online learning - Technical events and seminars
Unstructured CPD - Informal on-the-job training - Informal mentoring - Technical advice
For BPCA membership criteria you must complete your 20 CPD points for your employer to remain a BPCA member.
And if you get stuck? Please contact the training and education team at the BPCA for any questions or queries you might have.
