Horizon has assembled a team of professional instructors with world class expertise. Our instructors possess an unparalleled range of first-hand operational experience gained from many diverse disciplines and possess an intimate knowledge of the global security marketplace. Their experience includes many years of certified career training and procedural application in providing specialised security and medical training. Our instructors teach ‘from the heart’ by using their own experiences, some good and some not so good, to explain a

point or give an example. We believe passionately in the sharing of experiences as a teaching tool.

At Horizon we develop training curriculum by adopting a systematic approach. Through close consultation, client specific needs are identified, and course

requirements subsequently defined. Customised content is then developed and targeted to directly support client requirements.

We can provide training services in support of all tiers of an organisation. This includes executive and senior management training and mentoring, middle

management training, team training and individual training. We may also recommend individualised training modules to ensure active participation from all students and provide the client with a cost-effective method of receiving repeat and refresher training.

We are accredited by regulating and awarding bodies including, the Security Industry Authority (SIA), Pearson, Qualsafe Awards, The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, City & Guilds and the Health and Safety Executive, amongst others. B6 ARMOURED VEHICLE COURSE Duration 1 day

The course will allow candidates with the opportunity to drive a B6 armoured vehicle, where the handling capabilities, weight transfer and limitations of an armoured vehicle, are demonstrated and practically undertaken. Candidates will receive classroom presentation by course instructors at Horizon’s West Africa’s teaching HQ, where in Horizon’s own B6 armoured vehicle, candidates will be provided with tuition and practical experience on required understandings of vehicle dynamics, undertake a manoeuvrability course, operate under screen blackout conditions, undertake evasive actions at ambush scenarios. Successful passing of the multiple-choice exam and practical exam by Horizon instructors will provide a City & Guilds accreditation in B6 Armoured Vehicle Driving. This course is an essential unpinning qualification to any current armoured vehicle driver, or for organisations to ensure their drivers hold an accredited certificate to drive armoured vehicles.

WOMEN’S PERSONAL SAFETY AND AWARENESSDuration 2 days

The course involves modular training, taught by Horizon West Africa’s female instructors, with the aims to develop ways in which to decrease risks to women both domestically and within the workplace, enable an understanding of what sexual harassment is and how to mitigate it. The course will teach self-defence techniques, situational awareness, personal and travel security. We encourage integrated learning by the use of several ‘command tasks’, which encourage forward thinking and problem solving as a group.

HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS TRAINING (HEAT)SECURITY AWARENESS IN FRAGILE AREAS (SAFE)Duration 4 days or bespoke to client requirements

Our Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course has been specifically designed to cover all the relative subjects that relate to non-governmental organisations, media, listed charities, aid agencies, private security companies and blue-chip companies operating in potentially volatile areas around the world. Whether it be in a humanitarian, disaster or war zone situation, various risks arise from working in these hostile and challenging environments.

Our course includes both security and medical related subjects to ensure that learners are fully aware and trained for the environments they may operate in. Security lessons consist of planning, risk assessments, site security, crisis management, kidnap, detainment, conflict management, cash security and bribery and corruption to name a few. The medical portion of the course teaches learners basic first aid to begin with, then brings these skills to a higher level to deal with trauma related injuries.

At the end of the course, learners are put through a series of scenarios that are based on real life situations that have occurred to test the skills learnt during the course. After training, students will be able to confidently deal with trauma related injuries in a calm and professional manner.

HOSTAGE AWARENESS & SURVIVALDuration 5 days or bespoke to client requirementsHorizon’s Hostage Awareness and Survival course is designed to equip individuals with increased skill sets that can be effectively used when operating in challenging environments where Kidnap/Hostage situations are a strong possibility. This newly developed course is both unique and bespoke and has been developed to combine survival with evasion, and includes tools, techniques and practical elements to enhance the chances of escape and survival if ever taken hostage. The course is suitable for Private Security Contractors, Freelance Journalists, News/Media Crews, INGO’s, De-mining Organisations, Remote Area Expedition Leaders, Remote Area Medical personnel or anyone who works/travels to regions where the threat of kidnapping is high; no prior military experience is necessary. The content of our Hostage Survival Awareness course has been carefully designed utilising our Instructors extensive experience in this skill-set. FIRST PERSON ON SCENE LEVEL 4Duration 4 days

The IHCD Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Level 4 First Person on Scene (FPOS) course is designed as the next step for a first aider. It is aimed at those working in remote or hostile environments. Students will be taught the skills associated with rapid assessment, stabilisation and transfer of both the trauma victim and patients suffering a medical emergency.

This foundational and valuable course is the minimum standard for Close Protection Operatives, Community Responders and Ambulance Responders as well as those wishing to gain Tier 1 medic employment.

MEDICINE IN REMOTE AREAS Duration 3 days (Refresher 2 days)

The Medicine in Remote Areas course has been designed to provide personnel who already have experience in prehospital care, the added skills and knowledge to be able to deal with casualties in remote and challenging environments. The course focuses on stabilisation of the casualty, through to the skills required for prolonged field care until the arrival of the emergency services.

The course is ideal for medical professionals who work in or want to work within remotes areas as a Tier 1 remote medic.

Students who successfully complete this course will be issued with Medicine in Remote Areas qualification from The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh which is valid for 3 years.

FIRST AID AT WORKLEVEL 3Duration 3 days

The Health and Safety (First Aid at Work) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, specifically designed for those who are appointed to act as a first aider in their workplace. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including: assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, heart attacks, choking, head and spinal injuries, fractures, anaphylaxis and more.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORKLEVEL 3Duration 1 day

This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including: managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, choking, shock, wounds and bleeding and minor injuries.

AWARD IN PAEDIATRIC FIRST AIDDuration 1 day

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) has been specifically designed to meet the criteria set by the Department for Education’s EYFS Framework and is ideal for:

• Those who have gained a Level 2 and/or Level 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements

• Registered childminders and assistants who are required to hold a current and full paediatric first aid certificate in order to comply with the EYFS requirements

• Anyone who has a non-professional involvement with infants and children, such as parents, grandparents and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills

Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including: assessing an emergency situation, dealing with an unresponsive infant or child, CPR, choking, meningitis, head and spinal injuries, anaphylaxis, asthma and more.

AWARD IN EMERGENCY PAEDIATRIC FIRST AIDDuration 1 day

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop the basic skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency paediatric first aid situations which could arise when looking after children.

The Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification has been designed in-line with the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements andis ideal for:

• Those who have gained a Level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with the EYFS requirements

• Anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who have an involvement with infants and children and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.

Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including: managing an unresponsive infant or child, CPR, choking, seizures, external bleeding and more.
