About CERTIn 2004, the City of Riverside adoptedthe Federal Emergency ManagementAgency Community EmergencyResponse Team (CERT) program.Since then, many residents have beentrained to form teams throughout theCity of Riverside.
CERT training promotes a partneringeffort between emergency services andthe people they serve, targeting:
NeighborhoodsBusinessesCommunities of FaithScouting OrganizationsSchool Staff/StudentsClubs/OrganizationsAmateur Radio Emergency Services
CERT members are then integratedinto the emergency response capabilityfor their area.
If a disastrous event overwhelms ordelays the community’s professionalresponse, CERT members can assistothers by applying the basic responseand organizational skills they learnedduring training. These skills can helpsave and sustain lives following adisaster until help arrives. CERT skillsalso apply to daily emergencies.
CERT members maintain and refinetheir skills by participating in exercisesand activities. Members can attendsupplemental training opportunitiesoffered by the sponsoring agency and
CERT trains participants to:
others that further their skills base.Finally, CERT members can volunteerfor projects that improve communityemergency preparedness.
