THE VERELLEN EXPERIENCE

Like all classic American things – fast cars, baseball games, the blues, jazz, rock and roll – Verellen furniture was born from a spark of innovation with a nod to tradition. Subsequently refined and polished with a global point of view.

Our signature couture styling gives each piece a timeless beauty, unmatched quality engineering, and design to last for generations.

As an eco-friendly manufacturer, we pride ourselves on sourcing the most sustainable materials available – FSC Certified lumber, reclaimed metal coils, hand-spun natural fibers, and even recycled packing materials – all a Verellen standard.

Every piece of furniture in our line is made-to-order at our manufacturing facility in High Point, North Carolina – a city with a

century-long furniture making tradition. Here, generations of craftsmen lend their artistry and expertise to each and every piece in our line. Planed, sanded, double-doweled, measured, cut, sewn.

All by hand. All by design. And all for you.

When something is both beautiful and well made, hand-crafted and timeless, it is the best of both worlds. Sustainably sourced and designed to endure. Tradition transformed by innovation.

Belgian conception meets American perfection.

Verellen was founded in 1999 by high-school sweethearts Tom and Sabine Verellen. They met at 16 years old and both knew already they were going to expand their horizons beyond their native Antwerp, Belgium.

Tom’s passion for fabric and design led to the beginning of Verellen’s fine upholstery line, which brings a new modern Belgian aesthetic - mixing natural materials with elegant lines and silhouettes, incorporating the American know-how for engineering and comfort.

After living for several years in Ohio they settled in High Point, North Carolina where they founded what is Verellen today. Not only did they start a company together, but also created what we call the “Verellen aesthetic” – a mix of their Belgian heritage and their new-found home – a perfect combination of European sophistication and American comfort.

As a policy, Verellen keeps the design process in-house with Tom as principle designer. Sabine leads the softer side of the design process – with fabric and detail development.

What started as a small business has now evolved into a growing enterprise that employs over 100 people – with oces on the East and West coast of the US, and a European oce and distribution center in Antwerp, Belgium.

Upholstery is our core. We are a comfort-driven brand, building an extensive collection from the success of our original founding sofa lines (Camille and Pauline) to the 100+ lines we o£er today.

Verellen showcases two new collections each year: April/ October in the US at the High Point International Home Furnishings Market, and in January/ September in Paris at Maison & Objet.

THE VERELLEN COLLECTIONAt Verellen, we pride ourselves on creating unique, hand-made upholstery. Skillfully carved frames, “Couture” tailored slipcovers, hand-applied trims, finishes and nailheads combine to create our signature elegant simplicity.

Verellen sofa styling is typically a lower sitting piece with lots of depth. Our pieces are known for “sitting in” rather than “sitting on”. The deeper sit of our upholstery is a characteristic of our brand – we call this our European Depth, which is our standard depth.

For those customers who would like less seat depth, we o£er an American Depth option which is 4-5” less deep than the standard listed in the catalog, though this dimension is specific to each frame. Please see individual tearsheets for frame specific dimensions.

At Verellen, we are proud to manufacture our upholstery in the USA. Every piece in our line is produced locally in our High Point manufacturing facility. From our oce personnel to our woodworkers, design team and expert craftsmen, we are proud to be a part of a century-old North Carolina tradition of furniture manufacturing.

High Point – renowned for its furniture and textile industries since the end of the 19th century – is geographically located amongst abundant hardwood forests, freshwater streams, and verdant agricultural fields. This ideal location attracts a host of industrial manufacturers in the furniture and textile industries, and continues to nurture generations of skilled labor in the home furnishings industry. In our manufacturing facility, furniture making knowledge and expertise is still being passed

from father to son and mother to daughter. This, in turn, provides a level of quality that you can only find in a few places around the world. Some even say High Point is to furniture what Detroit is to cars.

OUR SUSTAINABLE PROMISEWood used for our frames is kiln-dried from managed and sustainable forests; wood glues are non-toxic, coils made from post-consumer recycled metals. Each process in our manufacturing is overseen and managed by our quality and engineering team.

From our color ways Belgian Linen® line, fabrics o£ered in Oyster, Flax, Natural, and Oatmeal are eco-friendly – meaning they are not dyed and are woven from minimally processed yarns. Our leading Belgian Linen supply mill, Libeco, has been operating carbon neutral in Flanders, Belgium since 2013. Even our packaging products are made from recycled materials.

Page 21: TRAINING GUIDE 2016 - Amazon Web Services · All our frames are made of solid, FSC certified maple, walnut, or ash – hardwoods known for their fine, straight grain and stability

OUR FRAMESAs a member of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), we are doing our part to protect the way the world’s resources are managed. It is our pledge and commitment to manufacture our upholstery from the most sustainable materials available.

All our frames are made of solid, FSC certified maple, walnut, or ash – hardwoods known for their fine, straight grain and stability. All premium grade wood is purchased already hand-selected to obtain the finest, straightest, and minimal knotted wood boards for our frames, ensuring optimum strength and less cracking over time.

Lumber is delivered weekly to our manufacturing facility. Each piece is then milled and cut to pattern. Verellen frames are always “four-way connected” - meaning they are doweled, glued, stapled, and screwed – this time honored process is an industry standard in high-end upholstery and guarantees the most stable frame construction.

For all our natural grey or white wash leg finishes we use hand-applied rubbed finishes.

Page 22: TRAINING GUIDE 2016 - Amazon Web Services · All our frames are made of solid, FSC certified maple, walnut, or ash – hardwoods known for their fine, straight grain and stability

OUR SUSPENSION AND SUPPORT8-way hand tied coil springs are the mark of quality seating in the upholstery industry, and one of the defining qualities of the Verellen collection.

Our craftsmen start with a network of recycled metal coil springs set on a base of high-strength sheathing. Coils are systematically hand-tied and knotted with strong hemp twine, so they are connected in a symmetrical pattern. This creates an even suspension for the most comfortable and quiet seating. Back support for most of our pieces also begins with high-strength sheathing.

Depending upon the design, some styles require the added back support of sinuous springs and stretched natural burlap for optimum comfort. In some cases, seating is not 8-way hand-tied, but instead uses stretched high performance webbing.

For padding on the body of the frame, we use natural resource polyurethane foam, polyester fiber, and cotton batting.

OUR UPHOLSTERY FILLINGSThe comfort of any upholstered seat is determined by the filling, as is the outward shape of the piece. At Verellen, we specify the most natural, resilient fillers available and o£er several options for seating. Please note each piece in our collection has been designed with a specific seat cushion we feel best suits the frame. Though we do o£er optional fills at an upcharge, we suggest ordering the standard cushion specified on the tear sheet.

Our standard seating for most frames is Foam Down Seating. It includes a natural resource polyurethane foam core sandwiched between two sanitized duck feather-down layers, and entirely encased with a downproof ticking. This ticking passes Cal 117:2013.

On some frames, we o£er Spring Down Seating – the same natural resource polyurethane foam core is filled with mini-metal coils that add longevity and structure to the seat cushion. This core is sandwiched between two sanitized duck feather-down layers, and then encased entirely with a downproof ticking. This gives a more supportive seating option.

OUR SLIPCOVERS AND STITCHINGVerellen is well-known for the tailored “couture” slipcover. Our covers are made to order and are fitted to each piece individually for the perfect look. Replacement covers may involve a return of the original cover for precise duplication. We recommend dry-cleaning only for our slipcovers.

All slipcovers are patterned to fit our upholstery just as a dress fits its form. Fabrics are hand cut and sewn by master seamstresses trained in the upholstery and garment industries. Slipcovers are secured with an overlocked stitch to prevent fraying. Additional stitching details are o£ered for both beauty and fit. 24" x 24"

QUOTESTypically you will request all quotes from your customer service representative. This includes custom and COM quotes. You can use the order form found on the website under Sales Tools as a checklist or submit your order with your own purchase order. Because we create your order to custom specifications, there will be lots of questions. We understand the options are there to maximize your ability to create and customize. We encourage you to explain or even draw what you are hoping to achieve if you cannot express it with the order form. Quotes are valid for 30 days and we can only give an actual estimated ship date once the deposit is received, the order is in production, and fabrics have been received.

ORDERS A quote becomes an order when we have all of the detail selections, COM forms (if applicable), 50% deposit, and a signature on the quote and signed CAD drawings for custom orders, beds, or sectionals. In addition, the order will not go into production until we receive your fabric or COM at our factory.

Once all of the information is received, your CSR will send you a final sales order. It is your responsibility to review this sales order to make sure everything is correct. Our production time for standard orders typically takes about 6-8 weeks (after receipt of fabric) and we are able

to accomplish this by not putting anything into production that could possibly hold up the line (and therefore the orders behind it).

We have a separate production line for custom items which typically take 8-10 weeks. If you have an item that you are trying to meet a deadline for, please advise your CSR so they can tell you if there are any delays in production prior to placing your order. We always strive to meet our deadlines, but cannot work towards this if we do not have a clear understanding of what your needs are. We manufacture by hand. It is part of our commitment to quality. We have no inventory waiting to go into production and each piece is engineered individually, made to order.

A Verellen Order Form must accompany all orders. Verellen acknowledges all orders in writing. If an order is placed without complete information, it is considered an incomplete order and will be placed on hold. After receiving all required information and a 50% deposit, the order will be released and placed into the line of production. All custom orders require a signed CAD drawing and a 50% deposit. A handling fee of 2.5% will apply on all credit card transactions. A credit card form can be found on the website, under “Sales Tools”.

Page 44: TRAINING GUIDE 2016 - Amazon Web Services · All our frames are made of solid, FSC certified maple, walnut, or ash – hardwoods known for their fine, straight grain and stability

ORDER CHANGES OR CANCELLATIONS Orders cannot be changed or cancelled after they have been released into production. A released order means that all paperwork has been processed, all materials have been ordered and the order is on the production schedule. Changes are allowed to orders on HOLD only - ie. waiting on fabric, deposit, or information to be released into production.

BILLING AND SHIPPINGYou will receive an invoice for the balance due when the order is complete. We occasionally get requests to prepay the balance to help expedite the order onto the truck. Your balance due will be reflected at the bottom on your order as long as no changes have been made during the process. You are welcome to send the balance at any time however we cannot send you a final invoice until the order is complete. You will need to set up your own trucking service. We do not have a standard shipper that we use, as we ship all over the world. Please be sure to specify a shipper and where we are shipping to and check these details on your order confirmation. We will contact them as soon as the order is ready to pick up. The shipper will bill you directly. Verellen is not responsible for any damages done to the furniture once it is in the shippers hands. Any discrepancies need to be handled directly with the shipper.

All goods are shipped FOB by the customer’s preferred carrier. Sizes and weights are provided to carriers as a guide for cost estimates and are subject to slight variations. All claims for damages or loss in transit are the responsibility of the customer upon signing the bill of lading by the driver at the factory. Since orders are shipped FOB, Verellen accepts no responsibility for shipping or transit damages. If damages occur, retain all packaging materials for the carrier’s inspection. It is the customer’s responsibility to inspect received items and acknowledge damage claims with the carrier upon receipt. These claims must be reported to our Verellen customer service department within 5 days of delivery.

RETURNS/ CLAIMSAll claims resulting from manufacturing defects, shortages, or errors must be made within 30 days of receiving the order. No claims for local repair or servicing to merchandise will be honored unless prior authorization is received from Verellen. If the merchandise is to be returned, Verellen will issue a Return Authorization Form. Items will not be accepted without a Return Authorization Form. A photo must accompany all returns or claims.

Page 45: TRAINING GUIDE 2016 - Amazon Web Services · All our frames are made of solid, FSC certified maple, walnut, or ash – hardwoods known for their fine, straight grain and stability

COM/ COL (Customer’s Own Material/ Customer’s Own Leather)COM/COL can be applied to our frames. COM with no repeat will be priced at Grade EL2. COM with a nap and/ or repeat will be priced at Grade A.

You will need to obtain a quote from your CSR for yardage requirements and submit a COM form. In order to get a quote please note the width and repeats of the fabric you are looking to use. Also, if the fabric must be run up the bolt or if it can be railroaded. Finally, if the fabric has a pattern or repeat we will need an image of the fabric to showcase this.

Our COM quoting process is contingent upon receiving your fabric information. We cannot give a quote on how much yardage we are going to need for sure until we know all of the information about which fabric you are specifying. Please do not order your COM until you have received a COM quote you’re your CSR. If you have any concerns about the fabric being a solid or not, or potentially needing to be backed, please send us a cutting of the fabric for inspection. We are always happy to take a look to avoid problems or unexpected expenses later. Again, we cannot put an order into production until your COM is received.

A Verellen COM Form must accompany the order before it can move into production. A

sample of the COM fabric must be attached to the COM Form showing the face of the fabric and the correct direction. We also ask that you specify the direction by checking o£ the box at the bottom of the form. We request you attach a copy of the COM form to the bolt of fabric to ensure it arrives with the correct information from your order.

All yardage quotes for COM are based on no repeat, plain cover and railroaded application. The order will NOT be scheduled for production until ALL COM fabric has been received for the order. If there is a problem with the COM fabric, you will be notified. If the COM received is di£erent from what was originally quoted, Verellen will need to re-evaluate the yardage needed and additional yardage may be required.

We prefer to have the COM form in advance of the fabric arriving so we can accurately price and verify your order for manufacturing, and to inspect your fabric once it arrives. Once your order has a deposit paid and is signed o£, it goes into production.

ALL COM Fabrics should be shipped to this address: Verellen 5297 Prospect Street High Point, NC 27263

CARE AND MAINTENANCEProper care and maintenance of your Verellen upholstery, casegoods, and lighting will ensure generations of enjoyment. The following pages provide an overview of specific care guidelines.

Cleaning & Care InstructionsFor fabrics protected with Nano-Tex

Don’t wait; the best way to protect fabrics is to remove spills and stainsfrom them as soon as possible. Nano-Tex minimizes staining in protectedfabrics, but cleaning may still be necessary. So remove spills immediatelyto make sure there will be minimal to no staining on the fabric. B utdon’t worry; if spills go unnoticed for a while, Nano-Tex will make surethat your fabric cleans quickly and above all easily. Just follow theinstructions below.

ALL FAB R IC APPLICATIONS

Clean liquid spills quickly with a clean, dry cloth:

• For liquid spills, gently blot (don’t rub) spill immediately with an absorbent clothwhile spill is still fresh.Wipe off with clean water and a clean, dry cloth if needed.

For semi-solid spills, try to lift the spot off of the fabric:

• Working in a circular motion or removing the spill from the side is often the bestmeans to lift spills from the fabric.Change towel surface frequently until spot has been transferred off of the fabricand onto the absorbent cleaning cloth. Try to avoid pressing the spill orspreading the stain.

• Wipe off with clean water and a clean, dry cloth if needed.

For semi-solid spills, try to lift the spot off of the fabric:

If a spill does not come off with water and a clean, dry cloth, add a mild detergentmixed with water and repeat circular motion. Mild detergents such as Sport Wash,Tide Free, or Cheer Free work best.

• If a stain remains, a solvent may be needed to remove the stubborn stain. It is recommended to use odorless mineral spirits, dry cleaning fluid such asperchloroethylene or Fantastik Orange Action All Purpose Cleaner. B leach can also be used on bleach cleanable fabrics.Wipe off with water and a dry clean cloth. Do not rub harshly. The harder yourub when cleaning a spill, the deeper the soil can be pushed into the fibers.

• R emove all soap or cleaning agent residue from the surface with clean water.

After using a cleaning chemical on a Nano-Tex® treated fabric, the fabric should be fully flushed with water to avoid any negative effects of residue build-up from the cleaner.

CARE AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONSFINISHED/SMOOTH LEATHERFor regular care and cleaning, dust periodically with a dry cloth to remove residual dust and prevent dirt from building up. No harsh cleaners or solvents should ever be used on the leather, as they could abrade the finish or topcoat o the article. For stubborn stains and spills, a lightly damp cloth with warm water should be blotted on the stain to lift and remove it. If this does not work, a mild soap and water solution (Palmolive or Dawn) should be mixed and then blotted to release the

Specially formulated products such as Moore & Giles, Inc. leather cleaner and conditioner can be used to rejuvenate fine leather surfaces, however, some leathers are inherently sensitive so these products should be spot tested before overall use.

CLEANING NUBUCK, SUEDE OR UNFINISHED UPHOLSTERY LEATHERNaked, nubuck, suede or unfinished upholstery leather has no protective film on its surface, making it susceptible to soil-ing and staining. Moore & Giles leathers including Satin Suede, Cottswald, American Bison Nubuck, and Remington are either waterproofed during tanning or treated with water repellant, so they will oer more stain resistance than untreated suede/nubuck. Regular cleaning of Nubuck/Suede can best be done using a vacuum cleaner, following by brushing the nap back up using a soft nylon brush. When spills do occur, blot excess liquid immediately with a clean white absorbent cloth or sponge. If neces sary, use clear lukewarm water and a clean, white cloth that is well wrung and gently wipe the spill dry using a blow dryer. At the same time, brush the aected area with a soft nylon brush. Light soiling, dry stains and marks can sometimes be removed by using a pencil eraser or a dry cleaning pad to gently rub the aected area. Finish by vacuuming and brushing the nap with a nylon brush. Butter, oil and grease are real problems for Nubuck. First wipe o excess butter, oil or grease using a clean, white, drycloth. Do not apply water to these types of stains because it usually pushes the stain in deeper or smears it. After wiping up the excess, leave it alone as the spot should dissipate into the leather in a short period of time. If the spot does not dissipate in several days, try sprinkling the area with baby powder or baking flour, then cover it with a damp towel. Allow this to set for about one hour. Remove the damp cloth, dry with a blow dryer, vacuum up the flour and brush the nap back up using a soft nylon brush. Repeat this procedure until the spot is removed. Ink or marker stains can sometimes be removed by using a pen eraser or a dry clean-ing pad. In most cases, this lightens up the mark, but will not remove it completely. Sanding the ink or marker stain with 400-grit sandpaper will also help lighten the mark, but caution should be taken because this can also lighten the color of the area being sanded. DO NOT USE CLEANING CHEMICALS ON NUBUCK OR SUEDE.

CARE AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS—HAIR ON HIDE LEATHERFor regular care and cleaning, periodically use an acrylic, soft-bristle brush to remove residual dust and prevent dirt from building up. No harsh cleaners or solvents should ever be used on the leather.

For stains and spills, use a cloth lightly dampened with warm water to blot the spot to lift and remove it. If this does not work, a mild soap and water solution (Palmolive or Dawn) should be mixed and then blotted to release the stain and then

WARRANTY LANDSCAPEVerellen stands behind its product which is handcrafted with careful attention to detail, and will review concerns and provide the appropriate action to resolve issues.

FABRIC: Verellen strives to provide an accurate representation of fabrics, however, variations may occur. The mills from which we source our fabric use strict guidelines to maintain color standards, but variations are expected due to the nature of the fabric. Upholstery fabrics, including slipcovers, are warranted for one year against fraying or dye transfer when cleaning instructions have been followed. Wearing, wrinkling, fading, and pilling are not covered. Application of any soil resistant treatment negates the fabric warranty. Fabrics are a naturally variable raw material. Di£erences in texture, color, or appearance among fabrics are not within the control of the manufacturer nor considered defects. Natural color changes, exposure to extreme temperature changes and direct sunlight may cause color changes and are not covered by the warranty. COM is not covered by this warranty.

LEATHER: Full grain leather is a natural product. Color variation, pull-up e£ects, healed scars, fat wrinkles, belly stretch marks and other natural markings are a signature to its authenticity and should be viewed as features of the product. These characteristics enhance the beauty and quality of the hides and are not considered defects. Each hide will absorb the dye process di£erently, both within the hide and from the hide, making every piece distinct and completely unique. Therefore, such variations are not covered by warranty.

CUSHIONING: Verellen cushioning is designed and constructed to create a comfort that is uniquely specific to each line of furniture we manufacture. Our first style of cushioning begins with an eco-friendly soy-based foam, poly fiber and feather ticking. Many styles include the Spring/ Down option which o£ers a firmer, more structured ride. Available on specific styles, we have also designed an all feather duvet pad seat (refer to your catalog for these selections). All Verellen pillows and toss are 90% feather/ 10% goose down. Cushions and pillows are warranted against the abnormal loss of resiliency for one year from the date of purchase by the original purchaser, as long as cushions and pillows are used under normal wear and normal conditions.

Abnormal wear and loss of resiliency should not be confused with flattening of the foam, feathers, and fibers, which are considered normal wear and are not considered defects under this warranty.

VARIATIONS: Because of the natural materials used in the upholstery manufacturing process, and the fact that the product is handmade, minor variations will occur from piece to piece. These are not considered defects under this warranty. Verellen reserves the right to modify the product from its original form shown on showroom floors or in catalogs. Such modifications are not considered defects under this warranty.
