KEY MESSAGES:This is not a PBX. The 19 rack-mounted enclosure holds common control (top enclosure in this picture). Gateways (middle 2 Access Point 3700 enclosures) and applications (bottom). They are implemented on a LAN or could be implemented via cable (thats the basic difference between an AP 3700 and an AP 3700 IP). As a Converged System we provide our customers with choices. Our customers can deploy a HiPath 4000 V3.0 as 100% IP, 100% TDM or as with most customers, a mixture thereof, when and where it makes sense. Some customers may be fine with IP for remote workers, but want to keep call center agents on TDM. The choice is theirs to make on their time line.Operating System is hacker- and virus-resistantUnlike competitors who have been blasted recently on the front page of the WSJ, our systems havent been exposed. Its not a surprise based on how meticulous we architecture each of our products. The HiPath 4000 is made to those same exacting standards which is why our systems havent been hacked yet. In more slides to come youll find out about the architecture and the security features that we have employed.Access Points can reside at the host site (for better resiliency) or extended via IP to remote sites all operating as a single system. The benefits of a single system are:All sites are capable of being fully survivable via the Access Point Emergency (APE) concept which provides a processor in each and every location that the customer wants. This N+2 redundancy ensures that even the host sites cabinets are survivable depending on the outage at the main site.Mobile users across many locations have all telephony features accessible at any site.HiPath Assistant can be used to manage many sites since its all one system (no need to purchase HiPath 4000 Manager). In addition to open standards like SIP, PoE (802.3af) and others, Siemens supports a wide range of application, networking and endpoint protocols.

KEY MESSAGES:Open Standards means Smooth MigrationOpen Standards means Easy IntegrationOpen Standards means Investment Protection

Benefits to the Customer...SIP enables natural communications based on presence between people, not devices.People are reached faster, less lack time, more efficiencies.

Benefits to the Market...SIP provides a level playing field enabling new vendors to deliver solutions, solutions that are best-of-breed.Big players can sometimes be bullies. With a standard approach, more innovation occurs. This innovation allows for new, great and exciting applications that will make our lives richer and more efficient and exciting!

Benefit to Developers...SIP enables interoperability which allows developers to create valuable applications not integration resulting in speeding up the enterprise. If nobody wants to develop, any great idea will die. Creating applications that can work on any vendors equipment is the whole point of going from a vertical to a horizontal market. The major benefit here is that a typical voice T1 carries 23 voice channels, giving a maximum of 23 phone calls; whereas a SIP trunk is a data circuit T1 (1.5 Mbps) and will accept as many voice calls as you can stuff into it, and transport data as well. The advantage here is that when you are not using the bandwidth for phone calls, you have extra bandwidth available.

While we dont have SRTP trunks with the public carrier, that demarcation point between the telco and the enterprise is still a point of security breach. By using a standard for SRTP, it is likely that down the road as telcos see the competition to provide secure trunks, that Siemens will be in a position to accept these trunks. As users become more mobile, as the previous slide shows, the HiPath 4000 V3.0 needs to react to enable these users to be more productive. As users move from site to site, and from on-site to off-site, the Parallel Ringing feature enables a poor-mans OpenScape, or a poor-mans CorporateConnect, depending on whats needed. In addition, a side benefit is that this can reduce chances of toll fraud as users dont have full control of off-premise forwarding. Three Deployment Options: Enterprise Premise-based Managed Service Service Provider
