(1) Transporting Reinforcement :-  Reinforcement shall be transported to the site of work or

to the place of storage by such a means and in such amanner that the reinforcement is neither damaged nor

deformed .Unloading of reinforcement shall be done atthe nearest convenient point where it is to be processedfurther, particularly in the cases where unloading isrequired to be done by hand. It is important that the

vehicle should be brought as close as possible to the

stacking or bending place in order to avoid carrying overlong distance. At the time of unloading bars should beseparated by sizes and length.

(2) Storage of reinforcement:

In order to ensure that the reinforcement bars are kept in good condition. They should not be left in direct contact with the ground .They shouldbe stacked on the top of timber sleepers or the like. Suitable racks may also be used for stacking is adopted, the bars should be in such a way that the various Sizes and length can be quickly and easily identified.

After the reinforcement have been bent, they should be placed inmost convenient locations for transport to working points. Flexiblebends like stirrups and bends of small diameter bars should be groupedtogether and bundled for ease of handling . Each bundle of bars shouldhave lebels affixed to it, indicating the bar mark, bending schedulereference number and its position in laying.

In storing bars attention shall be paid to avoiding distortion and toprevent detoriation and corrosion. Where the reinforcement is likely toget corroded the stack of reinforcement should be suitabily sheltered.

(3) Laping :- Lap shall be staggered. Lap shall be provided in laping

Zone as mentioned in the drawing or suggested by engineer in charge . In laping the bar binding should

be proper so that it should not be distorted at the timeof placing or vibrating the concrete. Generally it isprovided 45 *dia of bar or 50*dia of bar. Follow it asper general drawing recommendations.

(4) Spacer bar :-

Spacer bars are provided to separate the double layer of reinforcement in the walls or slabs or beams to maintainthe proper spacing of the different layers of bars in the

structure.

(5) Cover block:-

Cover block which are generally of cement mortar (PVCPipe) shall be used to ensure the required cover forreinforcement. Cover blocks are generally square orrectangular in plan with or without binding wire

embeded in them which will be tied to thereinforcement at the time of placing. Mortar or concreteused for cover block shall not be leaner than the mortaror concrete in which they will be embedded. It should be

placed in proper position

(6) Cutting :-

Cutting of reinforcement should be such that wastage of

reinforcement will be minimized.

Different cut pieces should be stacked properly so that itshould be used when smaller pieces are required.

(7) Binder, stirrups, links:

In the case of binders, stirrups, links etc the straightportion beyond end of the curve at the end shall not beless than eight times the nominal size of the bar.

Bars crossing each other, where required shall besecured by binding wire having size not less than 0.90mm in such a manner that they will not slip overeach other at the time of fixing and concreting. Every

compression bar shall be tied at least in twoperpendicular directions. Stirrups may be staggeredprovided it is ensured that corresponding stirrups form auniform pattern of elevation.
