WHAT IS A “TROPEIRO”?
For centuries, pioneers of Brazil’s interior carried out a difficult task: Transporting cattle and goods from Rio Grande do Sul to Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro during the sugar, mining and coffee period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Tremendous dedication was necessary to withstand the hostilities along the way.
These men are known as “tropeiros” (cowboys who ran cattle drives). Their hard work and courage, which helped unify the country, inspired Tramontina’s newest product -- a new line of knives called Tropeira.
The aura of these men is carried in the design of the new Tramontina Tropeira knife, which is forged from DIN. 1.4110 steel, making it very strong. The handle is handcrafted from bull horn and bone*, and has a leather sheath, maintaining a tradition that goes back to the time when the tropeiros conducted theirincredible journeys.
