Most Arabs are Muslims. Islam is the official religionof the most Arab countries, and in Islam there is noseparation of church and state; a certain amount ofreligious participation is obligatory.
Islam has no priesthood. Islamic scholars or religioussheikhs, the most learned individuals in an Islamiccommunity, assume the role of imam or leader ofthe prayer. The imam acts as a spiritual counselor.

In conclusion, the Arab American has a greatrespect for science and medicine. They are wellaware of what Arabs have contributed to thefield of medicine and are proud of theiraccomplishments. Younger immigrants have amore favorable perception for the nursingprofession than older immigrants. In order for aclient patient relationship to be successful
between an older Arab American and anAmerican nurse or doctor is through mutualrespect. Arabs must have a respect for theprofessional as an individual and the healthcaremust respect the culture of the Arabic patient.
