From the principal Hi everyone – In Trangie, Tenacity and Resilience is everywhere!
Thumbs Up Thumbs up this week goes to everyone coping with the current situation. We have our amazing medical workers who are doing it really tough at present, so many have lost work and students and parents are doing their best to work at home.
We also acknowledge all the schools that are remaining open so that those people in the community who are working to keep essential services going can go on working. If the chemist, the supermarket, the petrol stations, the bakers etc stopped going to work we would be in big trouble – so THANKS!
Everyone at TCS is continuing to work hard trying to adjust to a completely new way of delivering work. Never has a group of people, and not just at our school, had to adjust and adapt so very quickly and in such a huge way. We sent out packages of work last week to all students to ensure that everyone in our school had equal access to the work that was set. We intend that there will be no lack of Technology Equity. We are preparing another pack to go out at the beginning of Term 2 if we should be still in the same situation, but we are planning a transition to other forms of delivery also. We are always very grateful to be part of a large Public Education system because of the huge amount of resources that are available to us in times such as these. All our staff have been participating in training sessions on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Teams and Adobe Connect. These are all different platforms for the presentation of work online and will be introduced to the students next term.
Of course, our secondary staff have been using a wide range of online teaching strategies already, particularly with our seniors but these are not embedded K-12 yet, but soon will be I am sure.
I spent three hours yesterday doing a session on each of three of these different options, armed with fly spray, and I am very impressed with how quickly our Department has responded to the need for Department staff to be upskilled and making the most of the opportunity that is here for us all to improve our skills. You may have heard about old dogs and new tricks – maybe they had me in mind!
Teamwork and Crazy Hair Day Our staff continue to work as an amazing team of dedicated professionals. There are so many activities underway that will benefit us professionally in the long term. Supporting the mental health of each other and of our students has been one of our biggest considerations, however, so check out our trangiecs Instagram to see how they have been connecting with each other in a different way. This old dog has learned yet another new trick and I can now access Instagram for the first time! Amazing! Finally …….. My door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. I need to know if we are not doing something right but I also need to know that you trust our motives and our intentions. I do teach, so if you need to talk to me for any reason, just call the office and arrange a time that I am not on class or in a meeting. Also, don’t forget our suggestion box at each side of the school.
Everything we do, every single day is for YOUR children. If we can do it better, tell us. Facebook is definitely for cowards – so please tell us to our face!
Also, give your child the most valuable gift in the world – a good education – so send them EVERY day. We have a great school and it is such good value for very little money.

Deputy principal report Although it has been a tough time over the last few weeks, as we have been looking at the best ways to maintain our high standard of educational delivery to all of our students when we know that not everyone has the access to the same level of resources and connectivity outside of the school.
It has been wonderful to be a part of such a dynamic team of teachers who care not only for our students’ education, but also the concerns for their well-being as society becomes more socially isolated in response to measures taken to contain COVID-19.
This is certainly evident if you are following the Instagram posts (go to trangiecs to follow) designed to uplift the students’ spirits and keep them engaged with the school. If not, I encourage you to keep informed with what is happening on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Currently, teachers are looking at and evaluating online platforms and ways of conducting online lessons which they think all students could possibly access in order to maintain some normality in light of the breakdown of normal daily routines. It is essential that students engage with school on some level to ensure that they don’t fall behind in their studies and that they maintain their learning. Teachers have been keeping in touch with emails, but please feel free to call by phone if there are any issues.
We are currently preparing packages for the first 2 weeks of next term, but we will also be looking at increasing/supplementing our educational delivery with online platforms, such as Seesaw for the Infants and Year 3 students, Google classroom for the Primary and Secondary students, as well as experimenting with Adobe Connect for the secondary students. It is important to stress that these platforms will be in addition to paper work packages available, as we are very conscious and do not wish to disadvantage any student in their education, especially as we are not sure how long these schooling arrangements will last.
Finally, as difficult as things are at the moment, it is important that we try to remain resilient. The situation we find ourselves in at the moment aren’t personal (although at times it may feel that way), although bleak, it won’t have infiltrated into all aspects of our lives and the situation isn’t permanent (even though we don’t know when it will end, it will eventually end).
We will keep everyone up to date on Facebook.

I love being a Secondary teacher at Trangie Central School. Fantastic leadership, high expectations of staff and students alike and the genuine and caring school community make TCS the perfect place to work.
Mrs Sanderson
I had never even heard of Trangie, or had any idea where it was when I started preparing to come here from Newcastle, where I was born and bred, after graduating from the University of Newcastle last year. I quickly fell in love with the town, with the satin black night sky and it’s endless stars on display and of course the town people, who straight away treated me like family, even though they didn’t know me from a bar of soap! Then there is Trangie Central School. First year teaching is incredibly hard (and extremely different from what we are taught at uni), with a million things to learn and know, everyday, and the need to know them straight away. Teaching Year 11 and 12 in your first year (which rarely happened) and being the only art teacher in the school makes it harder. Yet thanks to the iron-clad support of the staff of TCS, who could not be any more open, understanding and supportive, I’m getting better every day. I now know exactly what Trangie is and where it is……..it is my home and I wouldn’t want to live or work anywhere else!

One of my favourite memories so far would to have been when I went
to teach my Maths lesson and Sammy the Snake had hidden the
Maths resources I needed. We were learning about numbers that go
together to make 5 and I had a range of dots on 5 frames that Sammy
had hidden in the back playground.
The students asked Sammy questions about
where he had hidden them and we went on an
adventure to find all the 5 frames.
I loved seeing the excitement in
every student as they raced around
collecting all the 5 frames the
naughty snake had hidden.

Macca’s Mindset
Hey everybody! So we’re all in a difficult and uncertain time but in every event and situation there is opportunity. I want to let you know about positive feedback loops which are great for your mental health. You’ve got to set a goal to work towards, and list all the things you need to do to achieve it and then put them into a daily routine.
As you complete them and hit your goals day after day, you’ll experience positive emotions as you near the goal you’re working towards and you’ll also build lots of momentum. In this situation we have more free time and also the freedom to choose what to do with it, so set up your positive feedback loop and succeed on your terms.
Sounds good, but what are some examples? Completing set work, reorganising your room, backyard projects, rebuild bikes, learn life skills (change a tyre), improve fitness, practise mindfulness.

Hello families and students,
We hope you are doing well and most importantly, being kind and patient with each other.
Students, remember it is a very stressful time for the grown ups, so try your best to be
helpful and help your siblings. School is a very lonely place without you all but we’re so glad
you’re home and safe. Please don’t go to the shops or meet up with your friends…….even
though that is very hard, we just need to stop ourselves from doing our usual things.
We hope you are enjoying the work in the package that we sent home? Try your best and
please, please, please make sure you read!
Noels and I are getting pretty bored here without you all and we are really looking forward
to seeing you all again. We think we’ll have to have a special class party on our first day
back once this virus has cleared out.
Take care of yourselves.
Check your emails and have a happy Easter!

Hi kids,
Who would have thought it…...school with no students! Myself and Miss Lyndel have been busy preparing interesting activities to keep you engaged and learning from home.
We miss seeing your smiling faces daily. During these tough times, make sure you remember to be kind to one and other and keep in contact with your friends. Staying connected is important so we don’t feel alone.
I would love to see what you have been up to at home! You can email me photos or videos of your learning journey. Enjoy spending this time with your families, I am certainly missing mine in Ireland and am a little envious of how close you all get to be to yours!!
When all this madness is over, we look forward to seeing you back in 5/6 with a bang! Stay safe Love Miss Bailey & Miss Lyndel
Hi families - we sure are missing you at school! It just isn’t the same! For those of you
who have come to school, we love seeing your happy faces every day because it makes us
forget the craziness that is going on in our world today.
I hope you have had a chance to look inside the packs Mrs Sippel and I have sent out.
Please don’t be alarmed at the amount - we believe that having too much is better than
not enough!
The best way to keep your cool in this wacky time is to keep to your school routines. Have
your recess and lunch at the same time as school (11am and 1.15pm if it suits). Spelling
work should last around 15 minutes, numeracy work 20 minutes with a break in between,
PE (send the kids outside to run, hop, jump, skip, climb a tree)! The rest do as you please.
There is no right or wrong in this situation. Do what works for your family. As long as you
are reading and writing every day for the rest of the term you will do fine.
Families keep this in mind when you are doing the hard slog as home teacher - your child’s
age will give you an indication of how long they can concentrate for a sustained period. For
example - if your child is 7, then they should roughly be able to concentrate for
approximately 7 minutes. This is just a guide. :-)
Keep safe and keep smiling

Greetings from a very quiet school!
It is so strange to be in my classroom without
my boisterous and wonderful students.
Well done to all of you who are doing your best
to stay safe, well, and busy during this strange time.
We miss you, and are looking forward to the time when
we are back together in one place.
In the meantime, remember to connect: with your family, your
peers, your teacher and your brain.
Read every day. Get some fresh air and sunshine. Engage with
your learning and the activities your teachers have created for
you. Get something done and achieved. Listen to music that
makes you feel good.
Write something about how you’re feeling - it will be a
primary source for the historians of the future and your
grandkids will learn about it at school
Stay safe, stay well, and stay in touch!
Mrs Wilson
As everyday life continues we at TCS know that our school community is strong
and will get through the current situation and come out at the end (whenever
that may be) with the same positive outlook that we have always had.
Please families – look after yourselves and stay in touch with each other.
Your TCS Admin/SASS Team –
Jaye, Tracey, Deb, Donna, Sharyn and Julie,
Sandra (Canteen) and Mark (GA).
What a change it has been for everyone here at TCS – it’s a very weird feeling not having
the constant noise and activity around us. It’s like a Groundhog Staff Development Day.
And who would have thought that we’d miss students coming to the office for
band aids and ice packs, or ‘Can you please ring mum, I have a headache’,
and teachers sending students for a few photocopies – but we sure do miss it!!
