I think one of the biggest reasons for the success of Cow-A-Rama over the last decade is because of the responsibility we’ve exercised towards the marketplace. By responsibility, I mean, respecting that others have to sell in the same market and by doing eveything we could to pre-empt culls being included at Cow-A-Rama. Through proper housekeeping it has actually advanced our top end and I believe this 2010 edition is the cleanest Cow-A-Rama ever and will have within it the best set of bred heifers that will sell anywhere in Canada this fall.

The great Virginia Ranch herd, now a member of Bull Spectrum, has all the bred heifers they are selling this fall (except for the one that just brought $27000 at National Trust) here at Cow-A-Rama. This fantastic set of Fullblood and Red Purebreds are a group that could be consigned anywhere and be contenders for the front end.

The Moose Creek herd has really advanced its profile in recent years and gained the reputation for having quality cattle both male and female. Drought conditions in the vast “Peace” have forced this bred heifer dispersal which will include every ‘09 born female (less any boughten ones) at Moose Creek.

The Twin Chief name has long been synonymous with a reputation for having some of the nation’s best Red Simmentals with a bit of an outcross flair. This package of heifers were initially designed to be their own replacements, but upon the sale of the bulk of their cowherd, these will be offered in their entirety.

Mappin Simmentals seem to have really “hit their stride” lately. They consign annually to the top end of National Trust and operate a successful bull sale in Eastern Alberta. This will be a nice package of heifers sorted from their replacements. I will predict that this tattoo will only increase in value as time goes on.

Of course most of you are familiar with the Templehall name that was operated by Stewart and Donna Geekie. The Prairie Fire Dispersal is hosted by their daughter Jaime and her husband Matt. With a new young family started they have deciced to sell this smaller numbered herd. This group of quality cows are, as you will notice, very young.

With another dry year in the Peace River area it has once again left us in the situation of reducing the herd to fit the feed. Many of these heif-ers were to be retained in the herd, but sometimes Mother Nature has a way of changing plans. Some of the heifers have been tie broke, but all are very quiet. They have all been treated with Tasvax 8, Triangle 4 and Ivomec. All of the heifers were exposed to Moose Creek Image 12T. Twin Chief SimmentalsOnly as a result of our decision to reduce cattle numbers is our entire replacement heifer pen being offered for sale. These heifers were headed to the keeper pen and I believe they are some of the best we have ever raised. The strength in our herd comes from some very predictable cow families; as well over the years we have bought some of the best herd bulls we could find. The service sire to the majority of the heifers is Skors Red Spectrum 27S, who we have used for 3 years. His calves are born easily, have great vigour and have gone on to become some of our top bulls and females.
