Transcribe  All  Text    

   Transcribe  the  catalog  label,  and  all  information  on  specimen  label,  including  all  hand-­‐written  notes  here.  Enter  down  to  create  a  space  between  separate  labels.  If  the  specimen  you  are  transcribing  is  the  same  species  and  from  the  same  locality  as  the  last  specimen  you  transcribed,  you  can  push  the  “Copy  text  from  previous  task”  button.  If  you  do  this,  just  be  sure  to  change  the  catalog  number  and  double-­‐check  to  make  sure  everything  else  is  correct.                                              

       Collection  Event    

 

   Event  Date    Enter  the  event  date  in  YYYY-­‐MM-­‐DD  format.  If  there  is  a  range,  enter  it  in  YYYY-­‐MM-­‐DD/YYYY-­‐MM/DD  format.      Verbatim  Altitude    This  is  not  on  all  labels,  but  when  it  is,  it  will  be  usually  be  found  at  the  end  of  the  first  line  of  the  locality  label.  It  is  written  in  parenthesis.  If  it  is  not  on  the  label,  leave  this  field  blank.    

 In  Copula?    This  is  not  on  all  labels.  If  it  is,  just  type  it  into  the  field.  If  not,  leave  this  field  blank.      Collector    This  is  almost  always  going  to  be  “First  Beatty  Mexican  Expedition”.    Handwritten  Notes    If  there  are  any  handwritten  notes  (besides  a  corrected  determination  or  “det.  by”)  copy  exactly  what  the  note  says.      Verbatim  Locality    Transcribe  the  exact  locality  description,  except  for  the  altitude.        Interpreted  Location

   Catalog  Number    

Enter  the  catalog  number  as  “PSUC_FEM  #########”.      Taxon    This  is  the  species  name  (or  just  genus,  if  that’s  all  that’s  listed,  as  in  some  cases).  Sometimes,  there  is  a  question  mark  afterward  or  brackets  surrounding  it.  Do  not  include  these  here.  Include  them  in  the  “Trasnscribe  All  Text”  box.      Authorship  This  is  the  person  who  originally  described  the  species.  It  is  the  last  name  that  follows  the  species.  Sometimes,  they  are  abbreviated.  Enter  them  into  the  field  exactly  as  they  appear.    Sex    This  is  not  always  included  in  the  label.  If  it  is,  type  out  the  sex  (i.e.  “male”,  “female”)  and  the  number  of  each,  if  listed.  If  the  sex  is  not  on  the  label,  leave  this  field  blank.      Determined  By    This  is  the  person  who  determined  what  species  (or  genus)  the  specimen  is.  It  is  denoted  by  “det.  by”.  Copy  the  name  exactly  as  it  appears  on  the  label.  If  the  determination  was  amended,  and  the  original  determiner  is  crossed  out,  just  type  in  the  name  that  is  written  above  it.    Type  Status    Most  specimens  do  not  have  a  type.  If  they  do,  it  will  be  printed  in  red  ink.  Enter  the  type  name  here,  exactly  as  it  appears  on  the  label.  If  there  is  no  type,  leave  this  field  blank.          Individual  Count    This  is  the  number  of  specimens  in  the  envelope.        Notes    In  this  section,  record  any  notes  that  will  help  us  in  validating  the  specimen.  If  there  were  handwritten  notes  that  were  difficult  to  read,  or  any  other  sort  of  labels  that  did  not  fit  into  any  other  category,  please  indicate  that  here.  One  specific  example  is  a  second  determination  label:
