Content

Moving children and teenagers Using transfer solutions that are safe, comfortable and dignified is vital for both the user and carer. Many transfer solutions allow the user to be involved which helps reduce the strain on the carer. Manual lifting is not recommended when the weight exceeds 15-20 kg, and children and teenagers need to be transferred easily, safely and with dignity.

Mild The user is able to weight bear and have active use of arms. Head and trunk control is good. The user is actively involved in the transfer but may need some support

Moderate The user has some head and trunk control and might be actively involved in the transfer, but will need support. Weight bearing is not reliable, at least only for a short period of time, so transfer need to be a combination of giving support and make the user active.

SevereThe user does not have head and trunk control and will need help and support when being transferred. Depending on the users weight, a hoist may need to be used, to make it safe for both user and helper.

Sit to standUsing transfer platforms like the Molift Raiser demands the user to have weight bearing ability and be able to stand up. Raiser offers multiple grip options, adjustable knee support, and the possibility to secure the child during the transfer using a support belt. The foot plate is removed. Unlock the hip belt.

The user uses the strength in his arms and legs to pull himself up to a standing position.

Remove the Raiser strap and let the user sit down. If necessary use the Raiser strap+ to help the user. Secure the user in the toilet chair with the belt.

The Raiser knee support is adjusted, the user’s feet are placed directly on the foot plate or, as an alternative, on the Clover Foot.

Use Raiser strap or Raiser strap+ to secure the user during the transfer.

Support, sit to walk situationsWalking is a great way to give a user a sense of independence and at the same time a sense of achievement. walking is a natural way for a person to move. The whole body is involved, skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, heart, lungs etc. Disabled children can have difficulties in walking for various reasons, they must therefore be guided and stimulated in taking their first steps. Walking can give a child the opportunity of getting around, socializing and interacting with its peers.

If the user has the ability to stand-up and walk a few steps, an Immedia SupportBelt offers good support and assistance. Log roll the child to the side by using a drawsheet. Place the 2Move approx. half under the child.

The helper nearest the bed will carefully push on the hip and shoulder of the child.

Roll the child slightly to one side, remove the 2Move. If possible and/or desirable remove the drawsheet.

Make sure head and legs are on the board. If possible cross the legs of the child.

The helper on the far side use the drawsheet and simultaneously draw the child towards the Caribou.

Place the user correctly on the Caribou, remove the sling and secure the user to the Caribou using the straps.

Sitting to supine situationsAt the end of the day the number of transfers are increasing. Bathroom and toilet activities are central before the final transfer into bed. For a lot of children the ability to participate in the transfer will decrease. What the child is able to perform in the morning might not be possible in the evening. It is important to take this in consideration when the transfer method is chosen.
