The Franklin Hampshire Middle Skills Manufacturing Initiative
(MSMI)A collaboration of area manufacturers, Greenfield Community College, Franklin County Technical School, and the Franklin Hampshire Regional Employment Board and Career Centers
MCCWDTA Peer Learning Summit presentation 01/15/14
MSMI MissionThe MSMI project will maximize the existing resources of the region -- Career Centers, Community College, Vocational Technical Schools, Legislators, REB and Employers -- to create a stronger and more vibrant pipeline of well trained talent to keep pace with growing demand for advanced manufacturing products and to replace an aging manufacturing workforce .
We will engage Employers to contribute teachers, help build the curricula, confirm expected demand, provide clarity on preferred hiring processes, provide explanations of subsidized employment options and to solicit feedback on the program.
This project is funded by a Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund grant through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant program is administered by Commonwealth Corporation.
What we plan to accomplish!
Guided by partner employers, develop, implement, and improve over 4 cycles a 220 hr. academic/technical training curriculum approved by area manufacturing firms.
Train a minimum of 48 unemployed or underemployed adults and place a minimum of 37 into employment.
Develop a structure, format, and protocols that will allow such a training venue to continue after the grant period and potentially expand into additional employment areas
