OPENING HYMN COME THOU ALMIGHTY KING

Come, Thou almighty King,

Help us Thy Name to sing, help us to praise! Father all glorious, o’er all victorious,

Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days!

Jesus, our Lord, arise, Scatter our enemies, and make them fall;

Let Thine almighty aid our sure defense be made, Souls on Thee be stayed; Lord, hear our call.

Come, Thou incarnate Word, Gird on Thy mighty sword, our prayer attend!

Come, and Thy people bless, and give Thy Word success, Spirit of holiness, on us descend!

Come, holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour;

Thou Who almighty art, now rule in every heart, And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of pow’r!

To Thee, great One in Three, Eternal praises be, hence, evermore;

Thy sov’reign majesty may we in glory see, And to eternity love and adore!

Opening Scriptures Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2

The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. John 4:23

Confession of Sin BCP 79 Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Celebrant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Invitatory and Psalter Celebrant Lord, open our lips. People And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

All Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Alleluia

Celebrant. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: Come let us adore him.

The Psalm

Psalm 13

1 How long, O LORD? will you forget me forever? * how long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long shall I have perplexity in my mind, and grief in my heart, day after day? * how long shall my enemy triumph over me?

3 Look upon me and answer me, O LORD my God; * give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

4 Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed over him," * and my foes rejoice that I have fallen.

5 But I put my trust in your mercy; * my heart is joyful because of your saving help.

6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has dealt with me richly; * I will praise the Name of the Lord Most High.

The Liturgy of the Word A READING FROM THE EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS 6:12-23

Do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification.

When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to

Page 5: Transforming the hearts of the people for the Glory of God

Page 5

God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reader: The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God. THE GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 10:40-42

Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple-- truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”

Reader: The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God.

THE SERMON Mr. Jason Varnadore

THE APOSTLES’ CREED BCP 96 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Offertory The Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow Praise him all creatures here below

Prayers THE LORD’S PRAYER BCP 97 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. SUFFRAGE B BCP 97

Have mercy upon us, Lord, have mercy. V. Lord, show us your love and mercy; R. For we put our trust in you. V. In you, Lord, is our hope; R. And we shall never hope in vain.

The Collect

Let us pray.

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays

O God, you make us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son our Lord: Give us this day such blessing through our worship of you, that the week to come may be spent in your favor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER OF ST. CHRYSOSTOM BCP 102

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.

Deacon: Let us bless the Lord. Alleluia, Alleluia. Thanks be to God. Alleluia, Alleluia.

Priest: Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20,21

We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Tom Kinstler & family on the death (June

21st) of his beloved wife, Faye Kinstler. All of Holy Cross will deeply miss Faye. “I am

the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord; He that believeth in me, though he were

dead, yet shall he live, and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”

Outdoor Morning Prayer Guidelines

• Service size will not be limited since we are outside and have ample space.

• Attendees (who are able) are asked to bring their own chairs and maintain a social distance of eight (8) feet between those not in their immediate household.

• Those who use Holy Cross chairs will be asked to wipe them down with available

disinfectant after the service.

• Childcare will not be provided so all children will need their own chairs or blankets for this service.

• Hand sanitizers and face masks will be available for those who do not have these

items.

• This outdoor service will be a “trial run” that will be evaluated for possible future services outside as we move into the summer months.

• “Picnic” attire is perfectly acceptable, and people may feel free to bring their own coffee, water bottles, etc. Worshippers should expect to see unvested clergy during this service.

• While this is an outdoor service, we still recommend using a face mask (but is not

mandatory). Since there are those who are more comfortable wearing a mask when conversing with others, please consider bringing your own face mask for this purpose. However, we do not encourage lingering after the service.

• Clergy will not use face masks while conducting the service (i.e. liturgy, reading,

preaching, etc.) but will wear them following the service as we interact with the congregation.
