Dear Parent/ Carers,
The transition from primary to secondary is an important milestone in the lives of children and their families. At Chiltern Academy we pride ourselves on providing our new students, parents and carers with a smooth and extensive transition program, where students arrive on the first day in September excited about the next chapter of their education.
Welcome
“ I was really anxious at the time as I felt I was moving away from what I knew, but now I feel that this was a brilliant journey, as now I know who I truly am as I feel I belong in Chiltern” - Hamza [75]
This booklet contains key information and dates you will need throughout your transition journey. I hope that you can find all the relevant information on our school website, however, if you do have any further questions then please do not hesitate to contact me [email protected], 01582 310644.

The Chiltern Challenge
We challenge every pupil, every day to follow these six simple rules:
1. Never answer an adult back
2. Uniform must be perfect at all times
3. Stay on task and give your maximum effort at all times, in all lessons
4. Homework must be completed on time, every time and all deadlines must be met
5. Punctuality to school and to lessons is essential for learning
6. Equipment must be with you at all times
These simple rules will set you up for a fantastic five years at Chiltern Academy as well as setting you up for life. Remember that good manners and a smile cost nothing, but are worth a fortune.
“Before I started Chiltern Academy I felt worried and scared of how high school was going to turn out. Now I really enjoy high school as I am used to it” - Rayyan [76]

You will have the exciting opportunity to take part in the ‘Chiltern Challenge’ during your first term at the Academy.
Last September our Year 7 cohort were given the challenge to walk 10 miles across the Chiltern Hills. They worked brilliantly as a team and successfully completed a variety of different challenges along the way. This also helped to develop skills of resilience and perseverance whilst also helping to build positive friendships with classmates. Are you ready to take on the Chiltern Challenge?

At Chiltern Academy we understand the importance of positive praise and rewards for many aspects of school life. During lessons you will be rewarded in line with our ‘Steps to success’ rewards system. You will also have the opportunity to work towards achieving ‘golden tickets’ and positive conduct badges.

At Chiltern Academy, being able to offer our children a wide range of diverse extra-curricular activities is very important as it encourages them to become independent, confident and successful members of the community. We offer over 35 different activites which take place before school, during lunch and after school.

We are extremely lucky to have our wonderful school dog, Flynn! Flynn is a hypo-allergenic (less allergic reactions) F2b sproodle (cross breed between a springer spaniel and a poodle). Flynn is owned by our headteacher, Mr Douglas, and is never short of love and affection during break and lunch times by pupils.
Flynn is a support dog and when pupils are upset they can have ‘Flynn Time’ which is a one to one session where pupils can calm down and unwind with Flynn until they feel better. It has been noted that Flynn has helped numerous students overcome their fears of furry friends like him. Some of our pupils (who previously were scared of dogs) have admitted to overcoming these fears just through a simple stroke of Flynn! Flynn is kept in the office allowing children who may be a little nervous of dogs to not feel worried. Flynn is very well behaved and is friendly towards all people. Overall, Flynn is a firm favourite with the students at Chiltern Academy. He is excited to meet you all!
