DEFINATION OF TREANSMISSION LINEA transmission line is system of conductors that

transfers electrical signals from one place to another.

Generation station G.S represent the generating station where electric power is

produced by 3-phase alternator operating in parallel . The usual generation voltage is 11kv. the rotating machine that converts

mechanical power into electrical power.

STEP-UP TRANSFORMER 11/132kvA device that transfers an alternating current from one circuit to

one or more other circuits with an increase of voltage.

PRIMARY TRANSMISSIONThe electric power at

132 kv is transmitted by 3-phase, 3-wire overhead system to the outskirts of the city . This forms the primary transmission .

STEP-DOWN TRANSFORMER 132/33 KV

11

• A step down transformer has less turns on the secondary coil that the primary coil. The induced voltage across the secondary l is less the applied voltage across the primary coil or in other words the voltage is “stepped-down”.

RECEIVING STATIONIn addition to the receiving stations, there are a few switching stations in the

DWP system, two DC to AC converter stations, and other control and support facilities that manage and maintain the electrical distribution network.

SECONDARY TRANSMISSION

13

• The primary transmission line terminates at the receiving station (RS) which usually lies at the outskirts of the city .At the receiving station, the voltages is reduced to 33 kv by step-down transformers. From this station , electric power is transmitted at 33 kv by 3-phase, 3-wire overhead system t various sub-stations(SS) located at the strategic points in city. This the secondary transmission.

STEP-DOWN TRANSFORMER 33/11 KV

• A step down transformer has less turns on the secondary coil that the primary coil. The induced voltage across the secondary coil is less the applied voltage across the primary coil or in other words the voltage is “stepped-down”.

14

PRIMARY DISTRIBUTION(SS) the secondary terminates at the sub-station (SS)

where voltage is reduced from 33 kv to 11 kv, 3-phase,3-wire. The 11 kv lines run along the important road sides of

the city. This forms the primary distribution.

STEP-DOWN TRANSFORMER 11KV/400V(DISTRIBUTION SUB-STATION)

• A step down transformer has less turns on the secondary coil that the primary coil. The induced voltage across the secondary coil is less the applied voltage across the primary coil

SECONDARY DISTRIBUTION• The electric power from

primary distribution line (11kv) is delivered to distribution sub-stations(DS). These sub-stations are located near the consumers localities and step down the voltage to 400v, 3-phase, 4-wire for secondary distribution. the b/w any two phases is 400v and b/w any phase and neutral is 230v.
