Three of our group Directors – Harsha, Kavan & Surain attended Break Bulk Middle East 2020 Exhibition, which was held on the 25th & 26th of February, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The exhibition gave the team an opportunity to meet existing & new principals & partners. On conclusion of the exhibition they were also able to meet with some of our group’s shipping principals who have regional offices in Dubai.

SHIPPING NEWSOur first operation for 2020, on the 1st of January, was attending to a ship
supply service call of vessel M.T. G.P. Asphalt IV, at Off Port Limits Galle, Sri
Lanka. The experienced and versatile team at Specialised Shipping
Services (Pvt) Ltd. offered the following services to the ship managers: crew
transfer from the vessel to Katunayake air port, accommodation, delivery of
spare-parts and ship stores at OPL Galle by crew boat.
Specialised Shipping Services also provided all shipping agency &
husbandry services to Tanker Vessel M.T. Neelambari at Colombo Dry

A VISIT FROM CARRIER TRANSICOLD
Transporting a Lifeboat built in Sri Lanka using a low bed trailer from the exporter’s factory location in Negombo to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. This lifeboat is destined to go onboard an ocean going vessel and sail the seven seas!

SLANA WORKSHOP ON MARINE CONTAINER M&RConducted by McLarens ContainersOn the 21st of February 2020, McLarens Containers conducted a workshop on marine container maintenance and repairs for the members of the Sri Lanka Association of Nvocc Agents (SLANA). The workshop was conducted by our senior personnel, Mervyn Perera – Manager Container Survey & Repair (IICL Qualified for over 35years), and George Burtus – Business Development Manager (IICL & Qualified in Reefer Container Technical Services).
The workshop was conducted at the McLarens Container Depot premises for 20 participants and comprised of a 1 hour presentation, question and answer session, and a practical look at dry & reefer containers, damages, up-graded versions, and how pre-trip inspections are carried out on reefers etc. Following on the success of this workshop, SLANA plans to have more work-shops of this nature in partnership with McLarens Containers.
While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the global community, McLarens Logistics Group has implemented measures to work within the framework of guidelines laid down by government and health authorities. Being a Shipping & Logistics Group in Sri Lanka we also recognise the role we play as a part of the supply chain providing support services to the country’s essential services and trade. Our offices and logistics centre have been functioning throughout the curfew period and our operation staff have been reporting to respective work locations regularly while the others are working from home.
WORKING THROUGH COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Our freight forwarding team handled yet another bulk liquid export shipment of approximately 21,000ltrs of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil loaded in a 20ft Food Grade ISO Tank Container from Sri Lanka to a European destination. Our group is a leading provider of liquid logistics services in Sri Lanka!
Our Freight Forwarding team working together with our customs clearance, freight station and transport divisions handled the total logistics for the export of this Land Rover from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Melbourne, Australia.

The Blue 40ft container was converted into a fully air conditioned mobile museum, mounted on a trailer with an on-board generator, this unit will be taken around the country showcasing items of historic value.
CONTAINER CONVERSIONS
Our container conversions division had a busy 1st quarter in 2020, and pictured are the white color 20ft archive storage containers delivered to the High Courts in Gampaha Sri Lanka and 5 x- 20’ft green containers were delivered to the Central Environmental Department to be used for collection of recyclable materials. 40ft, Container conversion carried out for the Ceylon Electricity Board, and placed in Trincomalee using two mobile cranes.
