SAMSUNG WISENET CAMERAS GO MOBILE ON HULL TRAINS 25 August 2016

Passengers on Hull Trains will now be able to feel even safer following the decision to install video monitoring systems on the train operators’ locomotives and carriages.

HULL TRAINSThe Wisenet video monitoring systems have been installed as part of a phased upgrade of the train eet with engineering work having been carried out with the assistance of Atkins Rail, one of the UK’s leading rail design and engineering consultancies, who were commissioned by Angels Trains, the owners of the Class 180 Adelante eet operated by Hull Trains.

FULL HD CAMERASFollowing on from a successful trial on one of Hull Train’s Class 180’s and its ve carriages, Wisenet 2MP SNV-6012M compact at cameras and 5MP SNF-8010VM 360 degree cameras will now be installed in up to 70 train carriages. A forward facing SNV-6012M, which utilises Wisenet’s Motion Artifact Reduction technology to ensure there is no motion blur, will be installed at the front of each DMU.

“Railway related accidents are extremely rare, but we have worked very closely with Angel Trains, Atkins Rail and Hanwha Techwin Europe, to ensure that the mobile video monitoring systems are able to help us keep our passengers safe and that anyone tempted to get involved with anti-social behaviour will be deterred from doing so,” said Paul Wood, Fleet Manager at Hull Trains. “We will certainly be putting the cameras to good use. The HD SNV-6012Ms installed at the front of the Class 180 units will help us to investigate any signaling irregularities as well as safety of the line incidents such as trespass etc”.

“We have an absolute zero tolerance towards any abuse of our sta. The images captured by the cameras installed in the carriages will allow us to gather evidence that can be used in prosecuting anyone committing any acts of violence or vandalism.”

LIVE IMAGES“Following on from the successful completion of the installation of the cameras and recorders, we will be looking in the near future to conduct trials of iCam 4G technology with a view to be able to transmit live images from each of the SNV-6012M cameras located at the front of the locomotives to our central control room,” said Paul Wood.

“The objective will be to allow our operators to take advantage of the high quality images captured by the Samsung Wisenet cameras, to gain an immediate understanding of what may be occurring and take appropriate action, such as calling on the relevant emergency services.”Paul Wood

EUROPEAN STANDARDSBoth camera models are vandal resistant and are conformant to the EN-50121-3-2, EN-50121-4, EN-50155, EN-61373 and EN-609050-1 European standards. As such, they have been certicated as electromagnetically safe for use on trains and, with a rugged M12 connector, are able to withstand vibrations, making them ideal for use on trains where they can be used internally to monitor passenger activity or externally, to monitor the track ahead to provide video evidence of any incident.

Both the Wisenet SNF-8010VM and SNV-6012M mobile cameras oer an enhanced Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) feature which negates the eects of vibration. This can greatly reduce the rolling shutter eects such as image wobbling or skew that can be seen in high quality images. The SNV-6012M also features a Defog feature which improves the clarity of images captured in poor weather conditions, such as rain, smoke or fog,

RECORDED EVIDENCEImages from the cameras are being recorded onto Wisenet SRM-872 network video recorders. Developed in response to a demand from the transport sector for robust IP network based solutions, the SRM-872 network video recorders enable Hull Trains’ safety and security personnel to review latency free, high denition images of fast moving objects when an emergency or incident needs to be investigated. It achieves this by recording the images captured by the cameras at 60 frames per second through a recording bandwidth of 64Mbts, which ensures image edges are kept sharp and clear.

Built-in GPS allows for location data to be recorded and the SRM-872s are also equipped with hot-swappable 2.5” HDDs that can easily be removed for the purposes of backing-up video evidence.

HANWHA TECHWIN EUROPE ON TRACK FOR SUCCESS AT LONDON MIDLAND STATIONS 01 June 2016

Train operating company, London Midland, has invested in the latest generation of IP network video surveillance technology in order to maintain a safe environment for passengers and sta at fourteen of its stations.

London Midland, which has held the West Midlands train franchise since 2007, provides transport for over 60 million passengers each year.

PADS APPROVALIn excess of 300 Samsung branded WiseNetIII IP network, high denition cameras have been installed at the 14 stations by Babcock’s Rail business. “The knowledge we acquired as a Silver Partner of the Hanwha Techwin Europe STEP partnership programme enabled us to identify and recommend the WiseNetIII cameras that were most suitable to help the client meet its objectives at each of the stations,” said Anthony Sykes, Construction Engineering Manager for Babcock.

The issuing of the PADS Certicate of Acceptance for the WiseNetIII cameras follows a process during which the products were evaluated and comprehensively tested to ensure that they are reliable, t for purpose and comply with Network Rail’s demanding standards in respect of safety.

A combination of SNB-5004 box cameras, SNV-5084 domes and SNF-7010VM 360° cameras have been installed at each of the fourteen stations. Carefully located by Babcock International to ensure that there are no blind spots, they are collectively assisting security personnel and operations managers in their endeavours to ensure compliance with London Midland’s operational procedures, designed to ensure the safety of passengers and sta.

SUCCESS“In addition to helping create a safe environment, the new video surveillance systems installed at each of the stations are also assisting security personnel to detect anti-social behaviour and other forms of criminal activity,” said Anthony Sykes. “I am pleased to report that a number of successful prosecutions have taken place as a direct result of the availability of the evidence grade images captured by the WiseNetIII cameras.”

Anthony Sykes

“In a competitive environment where the client is understandably looking for maximum value, the price/performance ratio of the cameras was an important issue. However, key to the decision to source the cameras from Hanwha Techwin Europe, was the fact that all of the selected camera models have been PADS approved.”

“The SNF-7010VM 360° cameras have provided a cost-eective option for monitoring large areas such as ticket oces and waiting rooms where there might normally be a requirement for a large number of standard cameras,” said Anthony Sykes. “Equally signicant, the Full HD capabilities of all the cameras has enabled us to install fewer of them than we might normally expect to, as they allow us to see close up detail of any activity without any pixilation occurring in the images.

“At stations such as Watford, this has been particularly useful in areas where there are overhead electric supply lines as we have been able to be selective in where we place the cameras in order to minimise risk for our maintenance engineers.”

Depending on the number of cameras installed, one or more Samsung SRN-1000 or SRN-1670D network video recorders (NVRs) have also been supplied for each station. Working together with SSM (Samsung Security Manager) software, they enable operators to quickly retrieve and manage recorded video of any incidents.

Where necessary, the images captured by the cameras are being transmitted via wireless technology to the recording devices. At Watford station, for example, a wireless system has provided a cost-eective alternative to the commission of engineering works and the laying of cables that would have been necessary in order to transmit images captured by cameras located in the station’s car park over a distance of 800 metres to where the NVR is located.

Izmir, the third most populous city in Turkey with a population in the region of 2.9m people, has deployed Samsung cameras in support of a Full Adaptive Trac Management system.

The Full Adaptive Trac Management system provides real-time integrated trac management as a means of reducing trac jams and increasing road safety.

The Samsung SNP-6320H Full HD 32 x optical zoom PTZ speed domes installed at key locations throughout the city provide high denition images in support of eld devices such as detectors, signal transmitters, trac signals and control devices. Collectively, they provide the ability to measure the volume of trac at crossroads and enable signal times to be adjusted in real-time in order to minimise trac congestion.

The SNP-6320Hs, which have an auto-tracking feature, are weatherproof and have heaters powered by PoE+ to withstand extremely low temperatures, as well as a Digital Image Stabilisation feature which negates the eects of vibration. The images captured by the SNP-6320Hs are recorded onto Samsung’s award winning SRN-4000 64 channel Network Video Recorders (NVRs). These are able to simultaneously record and multi-stream the transmission of images at a high bandwidth speed of 400Mbps and have a large onboard storage capacity via 12 hot-swappable internal hard drives. Power reliability is enhanced by way of a dual power supply.

Images captured by the cameras are transmitted to a control room. They can also be viewed by the general public via the web, TV, Internet and social media channels.

The Samsung SNP-6320H speed domes are also helping the city of Izmir to monitor the movement of public transport and emergency service vehicles. In total,1,500 buses as well as 100 ambulances and 164 re trucks will wirelessly communicate with signalised crossroads and their movements will be monitored with the help of the speed domes, as part of a trac priority system.

The Full Adaptive Trac Management system has been implemented by EDS Elektronik, a Samsung distributor in collaboration with Mavi Güvenlik.
