Want to monitor, record, browse, and play backtransport streams? All you need is a single VT3100!

Many countries are moving to digital TV broadcasting, a revolution that will not only allow the deliveryof images and sounds, but also provide a whole new communication infrastructure. Yokogawa’s VT3100transport stream (TS) monitoring station is designed to monitor, record, and play back TSs of digital TVbroadcasts — it’s essential for supervising and troubleshooting digital contents.

    ■ Main Features● Extensive triggersThe VT3100’s triggers include a 4-byte data pattern triggerand TMCC trigger for supervising digital satellite TV broad-casts, and triggers for detecting the events defined inETR290. The VT3100 can monitor up to three channels ofstreams independently.

    ● Remote browsingThe VT3100’s browsing function allows transport streams tobe monitored remotely. By simply connecting the VT3100 toan Ethernet network, a Web browser running on any PC canbe used to view the recorded transport streams and TMCCtables from anywhere.

    ● Wealth of recording functionsThe VT3100 incorporates packet filtering to record only thosepackets that contain a specified PID value, as well as slotfiltering to record data contained in specified slot numbers.(The latter is applicable only to streams conforming to theJapanese standard of BS digital broadcasting transmissionsand operations.) By combining the various triggers and re-cording functions, you can efficiently record the transportstreams you require.

    ● Problem reproductionProblem reproduction is essential for troubleshooting, so theVT3100 has diverse playback modes including a unique“quick playback” mode for swift problem-solving.

    Remote supervision and assorted triggers

    ■ Realtime Monitoring and ErrorLogging

In addition to detecting events defined in ETR290,the VT3100 supervises the operating status ofbroadcasts in various ways at the TS level. Upondetecting an error, the VT3100 records and savesthe item name with a time stamp in the error log, which can then be viewed from an Ethernet net-worked PC, thus allowing the broadcasting systemto be monitored remotely.

The monitoring channels of the VT3100 can be ex-tended to up to 3 (option), which can be monitoredindependently with different monitoring conditionsset for the three TS channels and error logs re-corded individually.

    ■ Capture a Specific TSTo troubleshoot a transport stream, you must first capture the TS that’s causing the problem. The VT3100 not only detectsand monitors conventional errors and events defined in ETR290, but also detects any change of TMCC information in adigital satellite TV broadcast, preset 4-byte data patterns, and so on. All these triggers let you capture exactly the teststreams you need.

    ● Data pattern triggerYou can set a particular 4-byte data pattern as atrigger condition, and can also set whether to re-gard each of the 4 bytes as invalid or valid, thusallowing flexible trigger conditions to be set.

    ● External triggerThe VT3100 has an external trigger input/output toallow synchronous operation with external devices.

    ● TMCC triggerGenerates a trigger upon a change in TMCC infor-mation that conforms to ARIB STD-B20*, so record-ing starts whenever there is a change in the pro-gram, image format, etc.

    ● PCR triggerGenerates a trigger when the Program Clock Ref-erence (PCR) count for a selected PID exceeds apreset value.

    ● ETR290 triggerGenerates a trigger when any of the errors andevents defined by ETR290 occurs.

    Intelligent recording

Troubleshooting depends on accurate recording and reproduction of problem phenomena. The VT3100’sextensive trigger and pre-trigger functions let you record the TS you need, and the various filters screenout unwanted TSs to ensure economical storage.

    ● Pre-triggerBy using the buffer memory of up to 1 GB (256 MB stan-dard), a TS before a trigger occurred can be recorded (forup to three-quarters of the memory capacity). The manytriggers as well as pre-trigger recording ensure that only thenecessary TSs are recorded.

    MEMORY

    Trigger

    Pre-trigger Post-trigger

    ● Cyclic recordingOnce a trigger condition is set, the VT3100 can record streams meeting that condition up to 256 times. The file name isupdated and a time stamp inserted each time, so the chronological order is clear during subsequent analysis of events.

    ● PID filteringPackets containing a specified PID (up to 6 PIDs canbe set) can be selectively recorded. This recordingof only necessary TSs reduces storage requirements.Filtering can also be combined with trigger conditions,so the VT3100 records precisely the TSs you need.

    ● Slot filteringFor streams having a slot structure that meetsARIB STD-B20, you can selectively record dataonly in specified slots. The VT3100 can thusrecord and save only specified contents frommultiplexed data streams.

    Remote diagnostics via Web browser

TMCC ViewShows TMCC information including the TS assignmentto individual slots and coding methods.

The VT3100 supports remote diagnostics via a Webbrowser. By connecting the VT3100 to a network, you can use Internet Explorer* on a PC to browsethe contents and TMCC information of recordedTSs. Using the power of the Web, the pages con-tain links so you can immediately access particu-lar information. Moreover, multiple users can ac-cess the data for greater work efficiency.

Multiple playback modes for problem reproduction

    ■ Broad Range of ApplicationsProblems need to be reproduced in order to solve them. The VT3100 can handle almost any application, including thoserequiring playback of a large content, or repeated playback of the same content over a long time. And since the playbackrate can be varied widely from 100 kbps to 56.61 Mbps, the VT3100 can handle everything from data broadcasting to HDTV.

HDD output modeIn this mode, the test stream is output directly from theinternal hard disk drive, so content as large as the driveitself can be played back with no delay.

Memory output modeThe test stream is transferred to memory from the inter-nal hard disk drive, and then output from memory. Prob-lems with the hard disk drive, such as disk crashes, canthus be avoided during playback—ideal for extended play-back on the manufacturing line.

Quick output modeAt the first playback, the test stream is output directly fromthe internal hard disk and also transferred to memory fromthe drive simultaneously. For the second and subsequenttimes, the mode changes automatically to memory out-put. This quick output mode offers stable, repeated play-back over a long time without waiting time.

    ■ Independent Playback ofMultiple TSs

The VT3100’s outputs can be extended to up to3 channels (option). Since these channels canbe used independently of each other, differentcontents can be played back at different clocks,so the VT3100 can be used to deliver streamsto a multiplexer for digital satellite broadcastsand to verify a digital multiplexer.

    Seamless playback

    ■ Seamless Playback of Specified ZoneYou can play back a particular content repeatedly by speci-fying a packet count, frame count, time, or the like. TheVT3100 features seamless processing that reduces pictureand sound distortion at the repetition points (joints) for cyclicplayback with minimal distortion.*1, 2, 3

*1:Available for TSs that conform to the ISO/IEC 13818 standard for theMPEG2 system; however, this processing does not completely eliminatedistortion at repetition points.

*2:For a TS containing multiple multiplexed programs, the processing appliesto one set of pictures and sounds.

*3:Not available for a TS having a frame structure conforming to the ARIBSTD-B20 standard for digital satellite broadcasting.
