MARK NIEDERHAUSER has been practicing/teaching in the martial arts for over 25 years. He often travels to Utah and Wyoming to further his education in the arts, specifically the art of Kenpo Karate. He is a member of the AKKI (American Kenpo Karate International).

ABBY OBER, a resident of St. Michaels, has a B. A. in Fine Art from Rollins College and has been teaching classes and workshops for all levels and abilities for over ten years. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Pennsylvania and Maryland including the recent “Local Color” in Easton.

JANET O’CONNOR is a home cook and a wannabe Chef. While she had a 25-year career in banking, holiday cooking for family and friends started a lifetime of fun in the kitchen. She graduated from “The Enraged Chicken Restaurant Cooking School” in New Orleans to become one of its catering chefs. Back in Maryland, she began catering parties and weddings. Janet currently lives in Symphony Village in Centreville and lives out her chef-dream as she caters annual fundraiser events there. With volunteers from the community, lunches and galas of up to 200 people are served gourmet meals, sandwiches, and hors d’oeuvres.

CAROLINE PHILLIPS is a photographer and filmmaker from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. After studying Film and Media Arts at Messiah College, she quickly became involved on the Eastern Shore with photographers and filmmakers assisting them with shoots that have taken her to places like Hong Kong and Vancouver. Starting in 2016, she went off on her own, making documentary-style videos and photos. She currently operates Riverine Creative, a visual production company specializing in creating video content for local businesses and brands. When she isn’t filming, she’s taking photos for magazines such as Shore Monthly, Edible Delmarva, and Chesapeake Bay Magazine. Caroline currently lives in Kent Island with her dog, Phoebe, where they love to take walks along the water and snap photos of the Eastern Shore landscape.

BARBARA REISERT earned two Associate degrees in Liberal Arts and Business Administration at Des Moines Community College then moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, established and ran a small Bed and Breakfast in Claiborne and created “The Claiborne Clarion”, a monthly newsletter for the residents of this friendly little village. Serving as both a student and facilitator at The Academy for Lifelong Learning along with being a board member for eight years filled my empty hours. Now living in Easton she just finished memoir number 300 and has written a book for her three grown children.

KAREN RITCHEY grew up in Frederick County, MD and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Political Science/Criminal Justice. She has worked for the State of Maryland-Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services for over 30 years. She is an avid traveler and always researching for the “next” trip even if it’s in her own backyard.

SUZANNE SANDERS earned a B.A. in Humanities from Johns Hopkins because, hey, somebody has to balance out all those pre-med students. She has worked as a journalist, bartender, poet, adviser, full-tilt mom, and Russian translator. At Jonas’ Attic, she showed how to have fun with metaphysics. She volunteers at the library and is working on a seemingly perennial novel. She lives in Easton with her husband. They are currently lacking in the kitten department. BILL SHEPARD is a retired career diplomat who served on U.S. diplomatic missions in Europe and Asia and served as a Consul General in Bordeaux. He is the author of many works. These include, “Maryland in the Civil War”, an e-book cited as source material by the Maryland Humanities Council, “Over There, A Doughboy in France, 1918”, the e-book, “The Great Detectives (From Vidocq to Sam Spade)”, and author of Shepard’s Guide to Mastering French Wines.

BEVERLY SMITH has been teaching for Chesapeake College’s IAL program since moving to Chestertown in January 2014, after a 40-year career as a professor of art history. She has continued a lifelong interest in what is going on now in art. Beverly has always found contemporary art to be an unending delight; it continues to challenge and excite her and she has always felt that way about talking with and telling others about art. She is also a practicing artist and has recently added acting and set painting to her resume.

RAYMOND VERGNE is a retired physician and educator that lives in Easton with his wife Anita. He is currently the secretary of the Board of Directors of the Mid Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and writes the program notes for the orchestra’s subscription concerts. As a former usher at the Casals Festival, he was once instructed to walk onstage before a recital and place sheet music on the piano, for which he received a thunderous ovation.
