Travelling information
Dear ESERA Summer School 2017 participant,
in preparation for the summer school, we have put together some information that we hope
will be useful for you as you begin to prepare for the event and your arrival to Ceske
Budejovice. This packet is a starting point for your preparations. We realize you may have
some additional questions after reviewing the material here. If you have any questions, do not

Getting to the Venue
From Prague International Airport (Vaclav Havel Airport) to the Central Railway Station
in Prague
- Bus connection to the central railway station in Prague (bus Airport Express)
o bus leaves from Terminal 1 as well as from Terminal 2 – every half an hour
o price 60 CZK (approx. 2,5 EUR), tickets at driver
o baggages are carried free of charge
o Airport – Railway Station: first bus goes at 5:30 and the last one at 21:00
o Railway Station – Airport: first bus goes at 6:30 and the last one at 22:00
From Central Railway Station in Prague Railway Station in Ceske Budejovice
- first train usually goes at 5:32 and then every hour (or half an hour – depends on the
daytime)
- price: 165 CZK (approx. 6,5 EUR)

Public transport from Mercury Center to the campus of USB
- bus No. 3, final stop: Jihoceska univerzita (University of South Bohemia)
- ticket will be provided by student-staff at Railway Station in Ceske Budejovice or you
will get further information about public transport before your travel
By car
- follow signs to Ceske Budejovice, use the address of the campus in your GPS navigation
o in this case contact us for more information
- if you are planning to come by car let us know in advance to arrange the parking spot
for you

REGISTRATION
- registration will be on Thursday (June, 29) open from 16:00
o if you arrive earlier, don’t worry someone will be available to show you the
accommodation facility
- registration will be at the building of the Private Dormitory “Pedagog” close to the
Jihoceska univerzita bus station (address is provided below)
- after getting off the bus cross the street and Faculty of Philosophy is the building on
your right (see the pictures of the building below)
o meals: the boarding starts with breakfast Friday, June, 30 and ends
with farewell dinner on Tuesday, July, 4
PLENARY AND GROUP WORK SESSION LOCATION
- plenaries and group work sessions will be placed in the same building as the
registration
- internet connection:
o the secured wireless connection is available in all areas (participants receive
the login information after arrival) and there is also possible to log in the
Eduroam wireless
ACCOMMODATION
- Private Dormitory “Pedagog”
- address: Branisovska 581/36, Ceske Budejovice 370 05
- wireless internet connection in all areas of the dormitory
- two rooms studios sharing the bathroom, toilet and kitchen
o please, do not forget to bring your own towel
o you may enjoy your own extra pillow, as the locals prefer rather flat ones
WHAT TO BRING OR PREPARE
Presentation of PhD project
All participants will be divided into small groups (with 7 members). They will present
their PhD project in these groups (approximately 30 minutes) and after that there will be
discussions about the topic. More details will be announced during the first group meeting.
Poster
Participants should prepare the poster with the most important information about
their projects. This poster will be displayed at meeting room where all participant of the
summer school will be able to see it and have discussion during coffee breaks. The optimal
poster should be vertically oriented, format A0 and it is necessary to print it.
OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
Currency
- Czech Crown
- Possibility to exchange money at the airport, at the center of České Budějovice and
there is also ATM located in the campus of USB
Electricity
- 230 V / 50 Hz
- If you forget to bring your own adapter, don’t worry, it is possible to buy it in the city.
Visas
- Visas are generally not needed for stays of up to 90 days.
- Some nationalities require a Schengen visa. If you need invitation letter let us know at
the mail address.
Available Equipment during the Summer School
- Data projectors are provided in all session rooms as well as the computers (with
Windows)
o If you are a Mac user and you want to use your own computer, you will need
to bring the correct Mac VGA adapter for your computer. We also suggest you
preload your presentation on a USB as backup copy, in the event that there are
any issues with your personal computer.
Sport Facilities
- it is possible to visit swimming pool (with outdoor swimming pool) or track-and-field
stadium – the sport complex is approximately 1.8 km far away from the dormitory
o possibility to walk or use the public transport (bus No. 3)
- if you prefer running in the nature, there is park with many paths
o park is approximately 1 km from the dormitory (way through the campus)
Food and Shopping
- there are 3 supermarkets close to the dormitory
o Billa (0.7 km), Albert (0.9 km) and Tesco (1.5 km)
- food court in Cinestar (cinema complex) – approx. 1 km far away from the dormitory
- many restaurants in the historical center (2 km – possibility to walk or use bus No. 3)
- you will receive the map and more information during the check-in
