As a referee I saw 2 rules that refer to all referees during a sporting event. “Rule number 1 – The referee is always right! Rule number 2 – If you think the referee is wrong, refer to rule number 1”. If you have a chance read the entire Psalm 100. Many powerful truths are there. But for the mean time verse 5 tells you all you need to know about our all knowing and powerful God. May God richly bless you in the knowledge of His faithfulness. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5 Rev. Bob Kwiatkowski Chaplain, TREA Ch 1

“If he permits the challenge, he will provide the grace to meet it.” - Jack Countryman

Ladies, please remember to provide me with any information regarding members who are ill, hospitalized or who have lost a loved one. And, always remember to pray for each other. ILLNESS: I am scheduled for knee repair surgery on June 20. If all goes well, I will discharge home on June 21, with in-home physical therapy. Veronica Zeitvogel will be the Acting Chaplain from June 20 through July 31. WORDS TO PONDER: Grace, the free and undeserved love and favor of God towards sinners. God’s grace, the two most powerful words in the Bible, covers our mis-takes and shortcomings, provides strength and protection, and gives us hope to look beyond life’s disappointments. God does not glory in our sorrow and pain, but he uses these experiences to teach us about His love and faithfulness. If he permits the challenge, he will provide the grace to meet it. ( Jack Countryman). God has promised that, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”. (2 Cor. 12:9). God will always be with us through the valleys of our life. Military Affairs

Greetings chapter members. The month of May was a good month for veterans’ issues. Several bills that have importance to active duty, veterans and military family members have passed major hurdles at the na-tional level and TREA was behind each and every one of these initiatives. TREA supports legislation H.R. 553 and S. 622 to eliminate the offset provisions so that recipients will receive full benefits for both

• SBP is a voluntary program that allows military retirees to make monthly contributions of up to 6.5 per-cent of their retired pay to secure 55 percent of their military retirement for their surviving dependents.

• Premiums continue until the military retiree has paid 360 payments and reaches the age of 70 (DFAS).

• Following 9/11, Congress expanded SBP eligibility to include all service members who die on active duty. In both cases, SBP annuities are taxable

• Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is a tax-free benefit paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to surviving spouses of service members killed in the line of duty or veterans whose death resulted from a service-related injury/disease

• Serves as a reparation or indemnity (hold harmless) payment for the death

• Provides a flat rate payment, currently $1,319.04 per month, regardless of the service members' grade or length of service

• Federal law requires a $1 reduction in SBP annuity for each $1 received in DIC

• The average offset of DIC to SBP is $925 a month

• $615 a month will close the gap and finally eliminate the offset when the Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance (SSIA) of $310 is subtracted

• Military retirees whose survivors will be eligible to receive DIC often have limited options to purchase life insurance because of their history of disability

In an effort to help military spouses hold onto their jobs, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced new legislation to create universal licensing standards for a host of professions and to modify state residency rules to ease barriers for frequently moving families. The legislation, called the Portable Certification of Spouses (PCS) Act, seeks to eliminate barriers that spouses often face over the span of a military career when transi-tioning from state to state. If passed, the legislation would accomplish two major objectives:

1. For the purposes of registering a business, spouses would be able to maintain their state of residency,

therefore avoiding compliance with state laws that require new paperwork and registrations. Defense dollars would be allocated to assist in providing uniform state licensing standards used in creating interstate compacts. H.R. 299, The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019, passed unanimously out of the House of Repre-sentatives, with a vote of 410-0. The May 14 vote marks the second time the legislation extending disability benefits covering medical conditions associated with Agent Orange exposure to Blue Water Navy veterans passed unanimously through the House. Veterans who have a VA disability rating, (10 percent or higher) are eligible for the Lifetime Access Pass to National Parks —with two ways to apply. First, disabled Veterans can apply in person at a participating federal recreation site. Simply present photo identification (Driver’s license, State ID, Passport) and documentation proving a permanent disability (VA awards letter, VA ID with service-connected annotation, VA summary of benefits, or receipt of Social Security disability income). That’s It. The Pass is free and issued at the time of entry. Second, if applying by mail, send a completed packet and $10 processing fee to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The packet should include: The Access Pass application form

• Proof of residency VA disability award letter, VA summary of benefits, or proof of SSDI income

Pass delivery expected 10-12 weeks after receipt. Make sure to have photo ID available when using your Life-time Access Pass and enjoy the majestic scenery and abundant recreational opportunities our National Parks provide. Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center is hosting a Food Drop on the 6th of September. Chapter 1 is coordinating with Mr. Carmel to plan how our membership can help support this veteran’s event.
