President’s Corner Hi everyone. The weather has been super and I hear that some finds are turning up on the beach.

If you have not paid your dues you are probably not getting this. If you still need to pay - make your checks out to Lona Leist, not the club. Dues are $25 year and first time members there is a first time $15 fee.

Boy, did our club make out at the Sebastian hunt. Four of our members including me found tokens for silver reales. Bob Brown, Bill Shackelford, Roland Davis and Ray Leist. Our club also had 18 members show up. David Stone got the key to open the treasure chest, which had a lot of goodies and a detector. Sally Korns got the closest in the pin-point and won a detector.

WE DID REAL GOOD.

Don’t forget the GREAT SOUTHERN BEACH SHOOTOUT. We are going to have a great hunt and lot of prizes. Just think what you

would do if you won $5,000.

I am still buying silver for the club. I am paying 5xface.

I seem to feel better, just not up to my old self yet. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts while I am fighting this cancer. I have about 11 more treatments to go.

We need to remember those people who are have problems. Don Baldwin fell about a month ago and broke his ankle. He is hobbling around but can’t put to much weight on it. He also got his eyes fixed and says that they will be coming to the meeting more often.

If you have something for sale – let me know and I will put it in the newsletter.

If we have not seen your smiling face for a while, we have missed you. Come to the meeting and bring a stranger.

Ray Leist, President

Riddle for the Month

How do you catch a unique rabbit?

Answer on page 9

Tid-Bits If you don't wear a piece of new clothing on Easter Sunday it is considered to be bad luck!

You'll drink about 20,000 gallons of water in your lifetime.

Lincoln had a dog named Fido?

Unprepared gold diggers crossing the dry deserts of Nevada could spend up to about $100 on a cup of fresh water?

Ben Franklin was also a weatherman?

Lobster used to be poor people's food?

Secretary’s Report – Chuck Hosbein

The March meeting of the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club was called to order at 7:30 by club President Ray Leist. Gene Crovella opened the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Our joke of the month was about two medical students walking down the street and trying to diagnose an old man who had gas.

We had a several guests at the meeting for March. They were recognized and received one of the new presidential gold dollars from the club. Club members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries during March were recognized and received silver quarters from the club. We had four new members join the club in March. Our new members are Billy and Sheree Spears, Sandra Robinson, and Jerry Adams.

Ray told a story about the new presidential gold dollars and how several had been mis-struck. So far, he has not found any of them.

Ray informed everyone that on February 14th, he had an attack and was admitted to the hospital. Four people tried to give him an IV before it was successful. He was diagnosed with a perforated bowel and had to have surgery to correct it. During the surgery, the doctor found some cancer that turned out to be a treatable lymphoma. The doctors think it may have been caused by exposure to insecticides. Ray will be undergoing cancer treatments for a while and thanked everyone for their prayers.

Secretary's and Treasurer's reports were read and accepted.

Lona gave a quick recap on February's beach hunt. We had a good turn out for it.

Roland presented a picture to Gene Crovella from the award ceremony he attended last month. Ray presented an award to Lorrie Sprigg for her help in locating the owners of several class rings. Bill Shackelford presented an award to Alan James for completing level 4 of the Challenge Hunt.

Ray reminded everyone of the hunt on Saturday, March 10th, in Wabasso. He asked for a show of hands from those club members who planned to go. There were several members going to the hunt.

The Beach Shootout hunt is scheduled for April 27-29. There will be a free kid's hunt. Kellyco will be sponsoring a hunt on Friday again this year. The prizes for the hunt will total $34,000 with the top prize being $5,000. There will be lots of vendors as well as a display of Atocha finds. There were information flyers available at the meeting.

Jim Robinson reminded all of the beach hunters to be sure they cover their holes.

Bank Night drawing was #5, Don Baldwin. He was not present and the $35 prize rolls to next month.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.

Tip of the Month

Dig Unlikely Targets:

Be sure to dig targets that come up as "trash". This is especially important if the place you are hunting is one that you frequent. If you clear the area, next time you will be able to find the real targets. Also don't forget that some of those "trash targets" might be good finds like rings and tokens.

Did you know?

This is a remedy for killing fleas on dogs and cats.

• using the peels from oranges • fill a large pot with water • boil the peelings on low for 45 minutes to an

hour allowing the orange oil to cook into the water

• let it cool • place the mixture into a spray bottle • soak your pet with the mixture, rubbing into

the fur.

This is a natural way for killing fleas and it smells great!

CFMDC AT LARGE

The TCAS put on their 20th annual benefit hunt at the Kiwanis Hobart Park in Wabasso, Florida. Twenty or so Central Florida Metal Detecting Club members made their way down to the hunt in search of silver reales! These pictures can also be seen on the club website at

Club website address

The first hunt was the Competition Hunt with 3000 painted pennies. The hunt awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Jerry Hitson of the CFMDC won 3rd.

There was a youth hunt after the competition hunt for kids 12 and under. The Pinpoint Competition is a

unique concept. You try to pinpoint the target under a platform covered with paper. Sally Korn from the CFMDC won 1st place and took home a brand new

Whites Metal Detector!

After a filling BBQ lunch, it was time for the Silver and Reale Hunt. The field was seeded with over 1000 silver

coins, prize tokens and 6 Reale tokens. The CFMDC took home 4 or the 6 authenticated framed reales!
