The landscape in the southern parts of Mjöl-by Municipality is better suited to forestry than to agriculture. Rocky outcrops pierce the surface of the thin soil here and there. Marsh forests and bogs are alternate with large areas of coniferous woodland.

The central part of the municipality is a place of transition, between the pine forests in the south and the open plains in the north. The landscape here varies between mixed woodland, meadows and grazing land. Most of the lakes in the munici-pality are situated in the central belt.
