Will grime ever make it in the mainstream; does the government targetthis type of music because of those involved?

My grime audience will be more intrigued to gain an insight into

what ‘Wiley’ may think regarding grime as a opposed to an mcnot recognised in the game.

Here are two different types of Mcs in the grime scene at thismoment in time, Wiley and Maxsta respectively. (I am hoping tohave both contributing in my documentary)

Profile and target audience andappeal of my idea

My target audience are both male and female aged 16 – 24.Appeal can be achieved by including relevant people whereappropriate i.e. presenters, vox pops and interviews.

The location of my preferred target audience is the UK. Film on popular locations in London which will be recognised.

Involving those who have views and opinions on the topic of gang culture and crime and how it has affected UK’s society willfurther increase audience appeal.



Profile and target audience andappeal of my idea

Adapt a more informal style and tone to increase and maintainthe appeal to my target audience.

Conducting interviews and or vox pops on specific locations to

create a sociable atmosphere.

Adapt a structure similar to a music video – Fast paced due tothe way in which it is edited. Mixture of different shots typesand movements.

E to C2 in the socio economic group. Include a mixture betweeninformality and formality.

Including a variety of different ethnicities through vox pops andinterviews to gain a variety of different views and opinions.

Focus Groups

The purpose of this idea was to get a general overview of mytarget audience’s views and opinions regarding my topic andits viability.

Qualitative and primary research. Focusing on both content and audience.

What I found

Grime music didn’t interest them Too male orientated My angle needed to be more thought out and precise.




Facts and Figures

This research helped me gain a better understanding of themedias opinions on grime music. It was from this that shaped my

angle (as stated before) It will be useful in the documentary to help support my views and

opinions.

A mixture of qualitative and quantitative research.

What I found

The media negatively portray grime music.

For some, grime music is a way out

Grime music can is considered to be closely related to crime.




Textual Analysis

This research enabled me explore the different types conventionsused and to look at the how other documentaries of similar topicsaddress their issues.

What I found:

The presenters weren’t really seen on camera, the voice over was

dominant. Very fast paced

A lot of usage of archive footage

My target audience prefer to watch documentaries

broadcasted by channel 4. The idea is good but risky



Technical Viability

For the Production Process I will need:

2 cameras (maybe) and film

2 Tripods

A microphone to ensure good sound quality

Some lighting equipment possibly for interviews

Blank DVDs

For the Post Production Process I will need:

An Imac and the software

A microphone for voice over

Audience Viability

Vox pops will be filmed on these locations : Eastham Plaistow Dagenham Beckton Canning Town All easy to travel to. The majority of footage used in my documentary will be archive

footage. I will obtain the footage from YouTube.

Music Video structure. Music will be played primarily throughout the whole documentary

to maintain fast pace.

Some contributors will be more willing to be involved in my grimedocumentary if offered some form of payment. Therefore increasingappeal.

Dealing with contributors

Contributors, like for example Wiley, will help give the production that

sense of realism and possibly help the audience adapt to and understandgrime in greater depth.



Commercial Viability

There aren’t any similar documentaries being broadcasted at thismoment in time – The news have touched on the topic however.

What I think is unique about my idea is that grime has beenportrayed by the media as something that is bad but I intend tolook at both the positive and negative factors of grime.

Money will be spent on transport costs, permissions fees (possibly)and food etc. Approx. £30 all together.

Broadcasting days and times:

Monday – Wednesday at 11pm

My target audience don’t watch BBC 1 after 10:25pm – nothinginteresting on that will appeal to my target audience – Nocompetition
