ConceptThe concept of my music video is tragedy/regret. The song itself has a melancholy feel to it with the slow delivery of the lyrics and almost dream like feel it has to it blurring the lines between what’s truly there. I will show these themes through the visual narrative of the music video, highlighting the elements and themes. As well as utilizing the special effects, which I will use to change the colour pallet and editing software such as fades to simulate the feeling of slipping away into sleep.

The settings in the music video will be highly important in setting the atmosphere of my music video. Such places will include the beach, a forest and a cornfield. These places will have filters over them to give them as more toned appearance, setting a darker atmosphere, which

will also be amplified by the performance.

Each and every element has been chosen to create that hazy atmosphere and the daunting

sensation of realizing the narrative as it unravels itself to the audience.

Narrative & PerformanceThe narrative as it must make sense in context to the plot and in relation to the lyrics. It is of the upmost importance that it is in keeping of the theme and sticks to the tone throughout the video. As the lyrics revolves around the themes of tragedy I want to convey this theme

over to the visuals and show the protagonist attempting to deal with the fact that they have lost the one they loved. The narratives in the video will run parallel to one another though with the coarse of the video. With each point in time reaching a climax and then all joining together for the conclusion and present time.

The narrative will follow the life of a young woman who tragically lost her boyfriend and how she keeps seeing him but always just out of reach to get him though the audience will be kept in the dark about him. Believing she can never be with him in life she tries to end her life, though as to what happens to her is left ambiguous.

Her performance will have to convey the turmoil she is going through. She will have to be able to literality scream and cry into the camera, as this video will deal with a very serious theme, “suicide”.

Camera & EditingThere will be a relatively slow paced editing, as if to convey the dream like world the protagonist is in. The slow paced editing scenes even possibly being slowed and sped up depending on when it is required. This is a very important component to get across the serious tone, which will be shown though the technical aspects such as using eye-line and graphic matches.

There will be evidence of using a variety of different locations and shots. I really want to get across that she is really thinking over her decision. The various locations will

symbolise her solitude and emptiness but also the fragile beauty of life.

As I want my audience to “see” her and the dream like world she is in I will make use of long shots and medium shots so we can see her pitiful state when she crouches over but more so than anything else close ups will be the most important aspect. As to emphasise with her more I will try to make use of P.O.V (Point Of View) shots to show how she see’s things from her perspective.

LightingI want to try to make use of as much natural light I can though as filters will be used in postproduction whilst editing the most important factors will be that the protagonists face is

only in shadows when it is to convey when she is hurt to make it easier to convey to the audience.

As most of the shots will be done in the lay the lighting should be bright but even cloudy weather could create a tense atmosphere but help with the dream like state that my protagonist is going through.

While the scene on the decking happens it will be done in the late evening, which may produce problems if the lighting isn’t done correctly. The fire pit will produce an amber glow that will hopefully show the audience her passion to the audience, the passion to live but also resentment towards a world that robed her of someone precious.
